I don't like the woman before me at all
More a girl really, and about to bawl
Her face looks normal even with growing red
It's what's in her eyes that fills my heart with dread
The doorways to the soul reveal the hard truth
Of innocence lost when she was just a youth
Emotional turmoil forms the perfect storm
Waves of anguish and guilt fuel the maelstrom
What affected her then, also affects her now
Over and over, despite her desperate vow
To change the way things are and how she feels
But it doesn't work and she can no longer deal
With the infliction of pain that always returns
She can't find the peace for which her heart yearns
Anger knocks down the shaky walls she built
Upon the retreat, anger turns into guilt
Guilt turns to shame, regret, and disgust
Her heart and mind she no longer trusts
So much so that she cannot look at her face
Fearing what she knows is out of place
No, I don't like the mirror image that I see
Even though I know that the image is me
More a girl really, and about to bawl

Wow... Nice job!
the phrase "She can't find the peace for which her heart yearns" just got me. But so such sadness to create something that is so beautifully crafted

Sometime the mirror doesn't always tell the truth. We need to pick up and go on...no matter what!
