The first thing you will notice as soon as you walk in the front doors is the service. All the employees are friendly and ask if you need a hand. They have a beautiful wide open entry but still manage to be comfortable and warm. They have actually been open in one fashion or form since 1924 when it was called Mir-A-Lac Inn. The main building was destroyed in a fire in the 80's and then rebuilt. You can hear the whole history from any and all the employees and even some of the constant guests.
The restaurants are amazing, they have three; one is a café sitting on Mirror Lake called The Cottage, then there is Taste which is a Bistro, and the fancy restaurant is called The View. The food is delicious and the dressing, marinades and any herbs that are needed come from their own personal herb garden giving the food a incredibly fresh flavor. They also have a food and wine festival every year at the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid, usually in March.
The rooms are a divine experience unto themselves. The classic room is the standard however there is nothing normal about these rooms. They are spacious, with 4 poster beds, vaulted ceilings, and private balconies overlooking the lake. They also have Signature rooms which look more like a large studio apartment with a rustic feel. They have fireplaces and large windows giving you a view of a lifetime. There are also suites for families so your children have their own room or rooms as the case may be. You can also stay in The Colonial House which is like renting your own luxuriously furnished home right on the lake.
Just some of the goodies they offer are an indoor and outdoor pool, cookies in your room daily, private beach, and a spa. They also have activities for the guests such as yoga or evening cruises on the lake. For children there are individual activities just in case you want some alone time too. And if this isn't enough they will pack you a picnic basket so you can go hiking and have gourmet food too!
This hotel is an all around experience and although more expensive than your local Holiday Inn they are special and a wonderful tradition to experience with loved ones.
