As you prepare to leave home for dorm life, you will surely scour many checklists, and do your best to pack all of the items you may need. Still, you will surely get to college and find yourself missing many important items. Here is a list of miscellaneous items you will want to remember when packing for college.

This list is not all inclusive, not do you need everything on this list. It is a list you should read to make sure that these oft forgotten items are on your list, if you feel you need them.

Kitchen items: Don't you hate it when you move into a new place and can't find a can opener? Well the same thing happens to college students. College students need a mini kitchen set that includes a can opener, forks, spoons, a small knife, plates, bowls, and dish washing soap. These things can be stored in a small dish washing bin or dish rack.

Tools: Only a few tools are needed for the dorm room, but some of these are invaluable. Twist ties to tame cables, a hammer, screwdriver, pliers, utility scissors, to repair anything that breaks. Lets not forget Duct tape which "fixes" everything, and Allen Wrench and a Swiss Army Knife.

Storage: Certain items will allow students to keep their items in order. Bed risers give a few extra inches of space under the bed for bigger storage bins. A 3 drawer rolling bin which can be used to hold and transport many of your smaller personal items can also double as a night stand. Decorative boxes and jars will also help to keep the desk top and shelves tidy.

Comfort: When the college turns off the air conditioning system, it is usually off for good, even though it may still be hot outside. For this reason a small fan in mandatory, especially if the college is in a warmer climate. Rubber boots and an umbrella may be necessary for rainy seasons. Students will also want to bring their own chair or at least a chair pad to make the college chair more comfortable.

Formal clothing: Guys need a formal business suit and possibly a tuxedo. Ladies need a cocktail dress and a full length gown. Don't forget the formal shoes. No one wants to turn down a date due to lack of clothing.

Personal papers: The birth certificate and social security cards are needed to get a job and open a banking account. Don't forget to bring them. Get a second formal copy if possible.

Other random items of importance for the dorm room include a small whiteboard for friends to leave messages on the outside of your door, quarters for laundry, noise cancelling headphones, ear plugs, and bath scale to help avoid the freshman 15. A keychain lanyard, rug, dust ruffle to hide the mess under the bed, shower and window curtains, first aid kit, and a power strip surge protector are also important. Finally, don't forget to bring a water filter pitcher to save money on bottled water.
