Misplaced Angel by Veralee Wiggins - Book Review

Denise
It is everyone's duty to do something good for someone else in the world, no matter if it is big or small, or giving up time rather than money. You do not, however have to be a doormat. That I think is the point in Veralee Wiggins book, Misplaced Angel. Rachel lives by the verse "In as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. She is a happily married woman with an eleven month old son, and has just given birth to twins. She is kind, just too kind and allows A woman, Mrs. Gump, from the Ladies Aid Society, make her do a truckload of charitable things.

It's not enough that she sews clothes for children with need, taking care of twins who keep her up all night long, Mrs. Gump sends four motherless children to her door and a whole group of other people to take care of. Rachel is tired and that verse keeps popping up in her mind. She just doesn't want to upset God. Rachel believes that if she doesn't say yes to everything, that she is a bad Christian.

I really love this book. It really teaches people a lesson about how far you should take your kindness. One person cannot help the entire world. Everyone knows you can help people to a certain point, but then, sometimes you have to say no. It's not anything you should feel bad about, it's just that you can't do everything. Mrs. Gump was the villain in the story(or should I say demon) and some others, knowing how weak the heroine was, used her as well. Mrs. Gump had no consideration Rachel had just given birth to twins, that her time is limited, that the space in her home is getting cramped. Rachel has to house several people in her home, some leave, but others have to stay.

She even had things thrust upon her, instead of the people asking her! Her husband, a doctor, had his own type of peer pressure, but he was fighting it. The doctors were doing this medical procedure that made some people lose their lives, and others get gravely ill. He stood his ground against it, even when his clients got fewer and fewer. His wife just gave into it until the very end, when she finally learned how to say no. Every Christian should definitely read this book. I love it. Especially the end. I personally do not know any Christians who would give to the point of exhaustion, but quite a few who are giving. I have met many Mrs. Gumps in my life. If you can find this book, make it a part of your library.
