Miss California

Conflict of the Soul

Lee Davis
Miss California is a beautiful and talented young woman. To use beauty as a career stepping stone is not rare. The qualifications for this avocation are clear. Never be photographed without lipstick or your attributes in full view. Whether I think this is immodest is not relevant. The "lovely" claims guidance from a higher power. One might observe a conflict of the soul.

During the customary "question" segment, a judge, Perez Hilton, asked a question concerning same sex marriage. Miss Carrie Prejean did not choose the question. She answered based on her beliefs. Mr. Hilton, a homosexual, attacked or lectured Miss Prejean for giving an apparently biased response.

Miss Prejean follows the teaching of Jesus Christ and is a member of the Christian faith. The "user's guide" for Christian followers is the Bible. In the Bible, the rules and regulations given from God are not up for negotiation. Miss California remained true to her beliefs, but there seems to be no end to the back and forth babble.

Should Mr. Hilton have asked the question? Probably not, since he was unable to accept the diversity of her spiritual lifestyle or her pro-Christian answer. The contestants held up well under the pressure.

Miss Prejean was true to her faith, but there are many components to Christianity. Several of God's teachings refer to a manner of dress. I suggest the beauty queen consider this as her assigned reading. Christians must be aware of temptations. One cannot choose certain parts of the Bible and forget others. One must choose the entire book.

Mr. Hilton should learn and practice diversity. Diversity is tolerance for all. No one should be fired or replaced. The question was asked, answered and a winner chosen. An apology for his tirade would be nice.

The pageant has moved forward planning next year's events. Let's move on.
