Miss California Carrie Prejean to Keep Crown and Title Despite Nude Photos - Personal Agenda?

Controversy Continues About Carrie Prejean's Topless Photos, Miss USA Pageant Answer and Personal Agenda

Kathryn E. Darden
It looks like Carrie Prejean, Miss California 2009, will get to keep her crown despite some semi-topless photos of her as a teenager which appeared on the internet during May as well as her controversial reply to Perez Hilton at the Miss USA Pageant in April.

Donald Trump Issues Verdict on Miss California Carrie Prejean

In a statement issued today, Donald Trump, owner of the Miss USA Pageant admitted they had a "little bit of a dilemma" with Carrie Prejean. Trump said Miss California gave a "very honest answer when asked a very tough question" at the Miss USA Pageant pageant adding, "It's the same answer that the President of the United States gave. It's the same answer that many people gave..." In his statement Trump called the question a controversial question, a tough question, and probably a fair question. About the racy photos of Carrie Prejean as a teen, Trump said that although they were risqué, they were acceptable and fine. (1)

Meanwhile, thedirty.com is threatening to post another photo of Miss California tomorrow reported to be "the image of all images."

Response to Miss California Carrie Prejean's Answer at the Miss USA Pageant

Miss California Carrie Prejean first gained national attention when homosexual activist Perez Hilton asked Prejean an agenda-driven question about gay marriage and then publicly lambasted in his blog her when she replied with her honest opinion. Keith Lewis, the co-director of the Miss California Pageant said he was "personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman," in a statement to Fox News adding, "I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone and religious beliefs have no politics in the Miss California family." (2) Apparently no one thought to ask Lewis why such a divisive question was allowed to be asked in the first place. Later Donald Trump admitted the question Perez Hilton asked Miss California was a no-win question and said "she was going to get killed" whichever way she responded. (3)

Response to Miss California Carrie Prejean's Topless Photos

Then Prejean's detractors had a field day with some unfortunate semi-topless photos of Carrie Prejean, reportedly shot when she was 17, turned up on the web showing the Prejean wearing pink panties and covering her breasts with her arms.(4) Although she referred to photos (plural) in her public statement, some of her detractors immediately began accusing her of lying about only one photo being taken, including Keith Lewis, who said he was "absolutely stunned" and that the pageant would "need to revisit this issue with her." (5)

Response to Miss California Carrie Prejean's Breast Enhancement

Next it was leaked to the press that Prejean had undergone a breast enhancement. Keith Lewis admitted to helping Prejean get the breast enhancement In an interview on "The Early Show" when he told co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez the pageant helped when "Carrie came to us and voiced the interest in having the procedure done."

Response to Miss California Carrie Prejean's Public Appearances

Prejean next came under fire for making public appearances with groups opposed to same-sex marriage. Keith Lewis said while the state pageant has "never criticized Prejean for her beliefs," that when a contest wears the title, "That says 'I represent everyone,' you can't then polarize the people you represent." Keith Lewis issued a statement criticizing Prejean expressing his concern about her ability to carry out her Miss California duties because "Carrie Prejean's first act upon returning to California was to headline five services at a church that promotes homosexuality as both unnatural and abnormal, we stand by our concern for her individual image and look forward to a time in the near future when she can put down her personal agenda and assume the responsibilities associated with being Miss California USA." Questions About Keith Lewis

So, who is Keith Lewis and why does he keep popping up in all the negative press about Carrie Prejean? Granted, Keith Lewis is the co-director of the Miss California Pageant, but he is also a Los Angeles talent agent and was referred to as a gay activist in numerous articles on the web about the pageant controversy. This may shed some light on why Carrie Prejean has come under fire repeatedly from Lewis and why Carrie Prejean and not Perez Hilton remains the focal point of critical statements from Keith Lewis about divisiveness at the Miss USA Pageant. If Keith Lewis is gay activist, that would certainly indicate there might indeed have been a personal agenda at the Miss USA Pageant this year - and not from Miss California Carrie Prejean.

I have to say that I would side with miss California for 2 reasons. Number 1 is Marraige is a religious right not a government right and the bible makes it very clear what Marraige is. And number 2 is that every time the government does get involved in it IE making it legal it infringes on the rights of the church. We continue to pick and choose when and where the Church and the state will be separate. Its ok for the President to say God Bless America, but its not ok for students to Bless God in our Pledge of Alligence. Just because Perez Hilton has the backing of the Gay community does not mean his views are alway correct. In this case I think he is not only wrong but in being wrong he is attacking a person that has more morale fiber in one strand of hair then he does in his entire body. What happens behind closed doors should stay behind closed doors but what happens in church should stay Gods will.

Those who are upset with her response should blame Perez for asking politically motivated questions to begin with.

  • Donald Pennington5/14/2009

Excellent coverage of the non-event fiasco. rotfl.

I give Carrie credit for having the courage to state her opinion, something the Donald himself wouldn't do at yesterday's press conference! And she shows more class than Perez, who resorted to name-calling because she doesn't agree with his views. Why is it acceptable for gays to spout their views, but not us heteros? We are in the majority, you know.... As for the nude photos, that's nothing than thousands of other beautiful women haven't done. It shouldn't even be an issue.

  • Charlene Collins5/12/2009

Great coverage here. I don't think the question should have been asked, because there was NO right answer to that question. We have to be so politically correct that we can't even tell the truth anymore in how we truly believe about anything.

I'm glad that she was able to keep her crown. Good for her
