Miss California Carrie Prejean: How Many Lies Does it Take to Lose a Crown?

Miss California Carrie Prejean just keeps getting embroiled deeper and deeper into a web of lies. TMZ reported Monday that the beauty queen not only lied to them in a statement that she only had one topless picture taken of herself after the website TheDirty.com posted a topless Carrie Prejean, but she lied about her age when the picture was taken as well.

But why would she lie about her age? Because she wanted people to think she was underage when the photos were taken. Being underage, the photos could not have been held against her as their dissemination would have been illegal. And more importantly, Carrie Prejean did not want to lose her crown. She maintained that it was a private photo that she had taken when she thought of modeling for Victoria's Secret -- when she was 17. After TheDirty.com posted a second photo of the topless Miss California, Carrie Prejean admitted that there were several topless pictures of her. TMZ states that they have seen four pictures thus far.

That was lie number one.

Since there was a question as to Miss California's age when the topless photos were taken, the Miss California USA organization and the Miss USA organization both began investigating as to whether or not the topless pictures constituted a breach of Miss California's morality contract with the organizations. Within the contracts, Carrie Prejean agreed that she had never posed for nude or semi-nude images. Although the degree of nudity might be questioned, there is little doubt that Miss California's case fit within the parameters of the semi-nude definition.

That was lie number two.

TMZ Monday reported they were possession of an e-mail of a Miss California sponsor who said that Carrie Prejean was 21 in the topless pictures, that they had been taken shortly after her breast augmentation surgery on January 6, 2009. The sponsor wished to remain anonymous but told TMZ that Carrie Prejean had sent him one of the topless images and asked "if she was in good enough shape for the Miss USA pageant."

That was lie number three.

Donald Trump, who owns the Miss USA organization, is set to decide Miss California's fate Tuesday. The decision comes down to whether or not Miss California's topless photos can be defined as semi-nude (that is, if nudity is defined as a complete absence of clothing) and, therefore, a breach of her morality agreement.

But one wonders if all the lies do not constitute a breach of her morals clauses as well. Comporting oneself in the manner consistent with the guidelines of the Miss USA organization does not allow for the spreading of falsehoods, especially when they reflect badly upon the organization. All the lying Miss California has involved herself in over the past couple weeks that has dragged the Miss USA organization into a heated sociopolitical controversy (and tangential scandals) has definitely tarnished some tiaras.

Donald Trump has been known to be lenient in the past, most notably with Miss USA Tara Conner, when he offered her a stint in rehab in order to keep her crown rather than lose it over the publications of risqué pictures of her and other women, drug and alcohol abuse.

But it is obvious that Carrie Prejean does not have a high regard for the truth. And if Donald Trump decides to show leniency and gets Miss California Carrie Prejean to agree to some form of penance, he must ask himself: Just how far can one trust a known liar?
