Miss California Christina Silva Wins, Then Loses Pageant
Early this week, Ms. Silva was asked to give up her crown because of a supposed "human error" in the tabulation of scores during the pageant. The rightful winner is Raquel Beezley who was declared second runner-up during pageant night. In a report from http://cbs2.com, several judges questioned the results and so the next day, the reopened the ballots and recounted the scores. That's the time they discovered the error.
Ms. Silva decided to give up her crown but furthered that the organizers could not exactly explain the said accounting error but that she was told that if she refused to give up her crown, "her personal integrity could be questioned and that her career could potentially suffer". She hired a lawyer and is currently looking at her legal options.
This is not the first time a state pageant has become this controversial nor is it the first time that a state title-holder is stripped off of her crown. Miss Colorado 1997, Regina Flores was stripped off of her title because the pageant board said they weren't getting her cooperation and that they were having disputes regarding her duties. Later on, the arbitrator sided with Ms. Flores and gave her back the title. However, after she was dethroned, the title was already given to her first runner-up. The pageant director, Yvonne Pederson refused to accept the ruling. The following year, Ms. Flores' successor, Keely Gaston accused the pageant officials of failing to support her and alleged that there was financial mismanagement. This whole controversy led to the resignation of the Ms. Colorado Pageant Board of Directors in 1999.
In the year 1998, the title of "Ms. Canada" became controversial because two companies chose two different girls for the same title. The pageant "Miss Canada" is technically owned by a commercial company but was put to a halt because of feminists protests. Because of this, during the 1998 Ms. Universe Pageant, in order to get a representative for the country, Mr. Trump apparently selected a 'suitable' girl, Juliana Renee Thiessen to be the its representative.
Mix-ups happen and pageants can be very chaotic for both the contestants and the organizers. Hopefully, these mistakes become very minimal in occurrence in future pageants. After all, stripping off a crown is embarrassing to both parties.

Post a CommentIf you look closely after he takes a picture with Miss Barstow as third runner up she walks away and a few seconds later he goes after her. Now some of you maybe thinking who cares. Well why didnt he run after Palos Verdes, Greater San Diego, Woodland hills? Just seems odd. Another shot of film you can see Keith looking at a particular angle, the direction Barstows VIP family section was and he looks scared and well to be frank like "oh crap someone did not get the memo" Contestants did you know that K2 Productions has put a restriction on the film distribution not only to the media but to the public as well. Why? Because there are a lot of things they don't want you to see but more importanly hear. Look ladies kudos to you if you want to continue to participant again next year but just remember the kind of people you will be surrounded by. Everyone needs to stop writing mean and inappropraite comments about both Christina and Raquel. They are not the ones that caused all this drama. The people you should be bashing is Keith Lewis, K2 Productions, the "volunteer accountants", and the one and only son of gun Donald J. Trump. They are the master minds behind all this! Keith Lewis is not a man of intergrity or class. I love that his idea of consoling are sorrows is with a holiday "gift" of bribes. Please stop Mr. Lewis your an embarassment and do something about your 80's hair do! He is great at crying on cue and loves to talk trash. He has said it in the pass that he did not get along with Megan Tandy 07 winner and made comments about her bad skin. Oh wait he is a classy guy.?. By the way many of you don't know this but if you look closely at some of the footage posted on you tube, google and various media outlets not once but twice does he run after Miss Barstow when she looses. How is there a mistake on the count when it was just 5 judges! Whoever made that mistake is really stupid! It was all set up. They didnt want Christina silva to be Miss California cause she is latina! There is something very fishy about the story!
Ann from Mass. Where did you read that Raquel Beezley is Filipino? Do you know the difference between being Filipino and being 1/4 Filipino. Anyhow these type of mistakes shouldn't really be happening in the first place. It's unfortunate for both girls because one was stripped of her title and the other one will never really get the respect of her title.
If you've never seen a photo of Raquel Beezley, why would you assume that she's a blue-eyes whitey? She looks as ethnic as Christina Silva. She may not be a Latina, but she is a Filipino; definitely not a blue-eyed white girl. You should check your facts before you run your mouth.

First, it's MISS Universe, not Ms. Second, Miss America does not go on to Miss Univerese. Miss USA does. Silva competed for MISS California in hopes of becoming Miss USA and then maybe Miss Universe.
