Miss Philippines 2010 Answer: Could Maria Venus Raj Be a Carrie Prejean? (VIDEO)
Miss Philippines's FAIL of an Answer Reminds Me of Carrie Prejean
Some are saying that this answer cost the 2010 Miss Philippines the crown.
Now, in Carrie Prejean's defense it is hard to answer a question about gay marriage without upsetting SOMEONE. However, Maria Venus Raj has no excuse. After all, how hard is it to answer the following question:
What is one big mistake that you have made in your life and what did you do to make it right?
Her answer was:
"Thank you so much sir for that wonderful question. Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Good evening Las Vegas! You know what sir in my 22 years of existence I can say there is nothing major major, I mean problem that I have done in my life because I am very confident with my family with the love that they are giving to me. So thank you so much that I am here!"
Now, how hard would it have been to answer the question HONESTLY? She's had to do SOMETHING in her life.
Miss Philippines 2010 honestly wants us to believe that she's never hurt anyone's feelings, broke something expensive, fell in love with someone she shouldn't have fallen in love with, stole something, or lied?
Maybe it's not the answer itself, but perhaps the articulation of how she answered the question. It's almost as if she didn't understand what was asked of her. Miss Universe is supposed to be the epitome of elegance, grace, and humility. That answer was neither.
Miss Mexico was crowned this year's Miss Universe in Las Vegas. It wasn't all that surprising, as she was favored to win. The US was disappointed after our candidate was sent home. However, there's always next year to stage a comeback.

Post a CommentI don't care if she did not win the crown nor able answer the "easiest question in the world"...she was on the top 5! how many times to we get to even see Philippines on top 15? She did our country proud.
your article said that she had to do SOMETHING in her life. what she said was there has been nothing" major ",, she did not say she did not make any mistake.
I told my American husband I can not remember a major problem when I was 22 years old in the Philippines. Cultural differences must be considered in the response. Ask some other ladies her age from our country with the same social status and you might get similar answers. I asked my nieces. I am proud of her.
I think the question, even though it seems simple, is the most difficult question asked during the competition. I am still trying to come up with my own answer after 2 days. It is a very personal question that should have not been asked. I agree with what the other people are saying, it is a very personal question. MUO should ask the same question to all finalists to be fair. And also, it seems you are quick to judge on Venus Raj's character and personality based on what you have seen during the competition. You might want to dig deeper on her background and what she has gone through in life, it might make you cry like a baby. She has been a true inspiration to a lot of people.
@Patricia Sabater . you should not be saying that she is an embarassment to filipinas. if you are a filipino then you should be the one embarassed ok? if your not, then you still shouldnt say anything about her being an embarassment to us because it was already an accomplishment for her to make the top 5. its been over 10 years. she didnt have to win because she represented us very well. she even said she had stage fright.
ummm first of all , she DID NOT , I REPEAT DIDNT NOT say no . come on ! you are misinterpreting what she said ! listen to what she said right ! she said hasnt done anything MAJOR MAJOR . she had stage fright and she even said it. you have to give her the props because she was the only one who DID NOT need an interpreter so she couldve had difficulties . Jamaica didnt need one so she doesnt count . The question wasnt also as easy as it seemed. Hers was personal , and the rest of them had things focussing on other issues . ALSO MEXICO WAS NOT the crows favorite: Philippines was . She had the highest ratings and mexico ONLY WON BECAUSE of Venus's major mistake of an answer . I still love Venus . After all , she became more tweeted and posted on youtube than Mexico . So im major major proud of Venus <3 she is still a winner . BTW i wasnt trying to say that philippines is better than mexico im talking about the contestants themselves .
This is not just about Venus Raj - there were several factors that she needed to overcome(time-30 seconds, try to speak in a neutral accent, compose your self infront of billions of people, answer correctly and consruct the sentence properly)- MY QUESTION IS: who trained this POOR candidate? We have a group of coaches paid to prepare a miss universe candidate for almost a YEAR - seems like a waste of money and opportunity.
huh? what are u saying Maia? Now, you don't make sense. All beauty contestants have to show their best self - a degree of superficiality. With merely 30 seconds to come up with a past mistake- your mind will go searching from when you were 5 years old to 21 years old: all in 30 seconds. Try that. Miss Philippines still deserves the adoration of Filipinos worldwide.
"Miss Philippines 2010 honestly wants us to believe that she's never hurt anyone's feelings, broke something expensive, fell in love with someone she shouldn't have fallen in love with, stole something, or lied?"
Did Venus ever mentioned that she did not do any of this? She only said that she did not have any major mistake/s in her life and is not implying that she was perfect. Now, if these mistakes are considered BIG to you, or in this case BIGGEST, you might as well be the stupid one and not Venus, for she did not consider these petty things as her biggest mistake ... Mistake is relative. Do not go on bashing other people base on their answer on a contest that was supposed to be superficial.
I agree with Marvelz; It was not fair she got a personal question and worse, who can think of past mistakes, since most of us are people of the future- we want to look forward, not backwards? All other 4 contestants were given forward-looking questions, it is easier to be creative with these types of questions, but a personal past mistake- I am still trying to think what past mistake I have made that is worth mentioning in front of billions of viewers.
