Miss Q Cinema Entering Another Dimension with Event - Fort Worth, TX

Q Cinema, Fort Worth's Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival will crown its newest Miss Q Cinema at a special multi-media drag pageant to be held at 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 19 at Best Friends Club. (Source: Todd Camp).

The event takes place at 2620 E. Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth.

"The Miss Q Cinema 3D Pageant, which alludes to the theme of this year's 12th Annual gay and lesbian film festival June 3-6 at the Rose Marine Theater, will feature some of North Texas' finest up-and-coming female impersonators, internationally celebrated performer Krystal Summers will serve as emcee for the evening, revealing the first year's film festival, including the lightning rod Tribeca darling 'Ticked-off Trannies With Knives,' in which Summers is the leading lady," states a press release. "Contestants will participate in four categories, including Presentation Q & A, Talent, Evening Wear, and a special Open Mic category which will test their ability to think on their feet."

In addition to a prize package, winners will have the chance to represent the film festival throughout the year at events such as the spring and fall film series, annual film fest, and Gay Pride, among others.

The June festival takes place at 1440 N. Main Street in downtown Fort Worth, according to Todd Camp, Q Cinema Artistic Director.

The mission of Q Cinema is to provide a voice for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender persons by presenting films, videos, and live programs that represent the diversity of the community and educate, enlighten, and entertain.

In unrelated community news, the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute signed an amicus brief in support of a second-parent adoption in North Carolina. (Source: Adam Pertman). The case, Jarrell v. Boseman, involves the state's local senator, Julia Boseman who legally adopted her partner Melissa Jarrell's biological son.

In March Florida challenged one gay adoption while providing support in another, according to an Institute newsletter.

"Florida's Department of Children and Families (DCF) appealed a decision by a Miami-Dade Circuit judge to award adoption of a relative's child to a woman who had been raising the boy since shortly after his birth in Jan. 2009, according to a Feb. 18 Miami Herald story by Carol Marbin Miller, 'Florida Challenges Gay Adoption in Hollywood Case,'" states the article.
