Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih Stripping/ Pole Dancing Pictures Scandal = Pathetic

Some Say They Are Worse -- Some Say Not -- Than the Miss USA 2010 Lingerie Pictures

Rima Fakih won the Miss USA 2010 Pageant in Las Vegas Sunday evening and by the next morning found herself embroiled in several controversies and another pictures scandal involving a pole dancing contest. Not only were her detractors crying foul over a question asked Miss Oklahoma (about the controversial Arizona immigration law) and complaining about the new Miss USA 2010 stumbling in her evening gown, giving an awkward response to her interview question, and reportedly scoring quite low in the swimsuit competition, but a set of pictures from 2007 had surfaced, depicting the future Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih as the champion of a Detroit pole dancing competition. And some want to strip Rima Fakih of her crown and title for her faux stripping championship.

And it all leads to one over-riding, life-altering, extremely important question: So what?

So Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih entered a pole dancing competition in 2007 and won. So she was the "Stripper 101" champion, a contest sponsored by a Detroit morning radio program ("Mojo In The Morning") where young women danced around a stripper's pole to win the top prize of jewelry, gift cards, adult toys, and, appropriately enough, their very own stripper pole. So she also pulled in a few bucks, attested to by the picture of dollar bills sticking out of her bra. So there are pictures of this competition, the future Miss USA 2010 working the pole at a gentleman's club.

Again, so what? What does it really matter? The contest occurred in 2007. According to those involved, Rima Fakih won without taking her clothes off (which shows real talent in a stripping contest, you would think). There doesn't seem to have been anything inappropriate transpiring. There are no naked pictures of Rima Fakih. There aren't any pictures of Rima Fakih making out or drinking or smoking with others or alone. She simply won a pole dancing competition. And remember: Pole dancing is being considered as an Olympic sport...

So... should Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih be stripped of her title and crown?

The MIss Universe Organization seems to be taking the stripping/ pole dancing scandal seriously, going so far as to ask the producers of "Mojo In The Morning" for any additional pictures or information regarding the event and Rima Fakih's involvement.

But to strip her of her crown? Although there are some who seem to be for the idea, one has to question their motives. Miss California USA Carrie Prejean didn't lose her crown even after she lied on her pageant application, lied about her nude pictures, then lied again about there not being any more nude pictures (which surfaced within hours after her having assured Donald Trump -- owner of Miss USA -- and the MIss California USA Organization that no more pictures existed). Besides, as some have already pointed out, the pictures of the pole dancing competition are not even as racy as the black-and-white sexy photos Miss USA used for the pageant promotion. Are the sour grapes so sour that people would see Rima Fakih stripped of her crown and title just because their favorite didn't win the pageant? Or is their sense of fairness and balance being tripped up by the fact that Miss USA 2010 is not a native-born American, that she is of Arab descent, and that she has a Muslim background?

Probably. But, then, who really knows?

Likely as not, the people calling for Rima Fakih's crown are the same that screamed loudest against Carrie Prejean losing hers.

Which would make the current efforts to smear and dethrone Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih -- call it "misguided revenge" -- even more petty and pathetic.

This isn't a big deal, lol.

I was shocked that she won quite frankly because she came across poorly in the question round. But she got the votes so I say let it stand.

This seems relatively tame compared to past scandals involving Miss USA, including nudity. If others who arguably had racier photos out there got a break, why not cut her one too?
