Miss USA Rima Fakih Once Won Radio Stripping Contest in 2007

Well this didn't take long

Newly crowned Miss USA Rima Fakih hasn't even held her crown for 48 hours and already there is a scandal emerging. According to the MSN based website Wonderwall, a Detroit radio station told US Magazine the first Arab-American Miss USA was the grand prize winner of a stripping contest they promoted just a few years ago. The contest, called Stripper 101, was held at Colesium Gentleman's Club back in 2007 and sponsored by Mojo In The Morning Channel 955. Fakih did not actually take her clothes off. She just bumped and grinded on stage with a stripper pole. Fakih won the contest and received some jewelry, gift cards, and some--ahem--adult toys as her prizes. According to the radio station's website, Miss USA pageant officials have requested to see more pictures of Fakih participating in this stripping contest. No word if the 24 year old is in danger of losing her crown.

If she does lose her crown, she wouldn't be the first Miss USA to be judged too impure to hold her title. Last year's winner Carrie Prejean was forced to give up her crown when topless photos of the anti-gay marriage beauty queen surfaced.

The reality of young women today

Ok, let's be realistic here people. Ever since Vanessa Williams gave up her Miss America crown when nude photos of her getting intimate with another woman were published by Penthouse Magazine in 1984, it's almost a give-in that many of the young ladies in these beauty contests have done some sort of racy, sexy photo shoot at some point in their lives. Who are we kidding? Are we really trying to convince ourselves that Miss USA or Miss America is some pure virgin who promises to save herself until her wedding night? The reality is this: the sexuallizing of our youth has been going on for the last few decades. Madonna's first fans were teenagers and they adored her when she rolled around on stage at the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards singing 'Like a Virgin'. Then came Brittney Spears and her legion of tween fans watching her strip down in her videos. And how can we forget 15 year old Miley Cyrus doing an almost 'pole dance' at the Teen Choice Awards last year. (See video here.)

The point is, the young women (and men) of this generation are far more sophisticated when it comes to their sexuality. For better or for worse, it's the reality we are seeing. Beauty pageant officials are going to have to bring themselves into the 21st century and stop holding onto an idealistic vision of young women from years past.

Soory but I guess my comment was too long. Anyway, the last part ended as..........................waiting for his partner to be a virgin on their wedding night. and so will he!

Very well written, but I disagree with the last paragraph. It should not be unreasonable for the pageant officials to require that those representing the prestige of these agencies being a virgin with impeccable backgrounds. I think there are still many females who hold firm to standards laid down for them by their parents. Knowing that it is hard and still abstaining from societal requirements can be hard. But the young lady and man that maintain their virginity and hold firm to their beliefs should not be comsidered a thing of the past. I have a niece who cries on her mothers shoulder every night regarding what is expected of her from males and taunting she receives frm other females who are out there giving it up nightly. My neice is still a virgin at the age of 27. She struggles with the moral breakdown of our society daily. I talk with her constantly to encourage and guide her in this battle. Because, believe it or not, there is that young man out there who is also waitin

Very, very, very well written!!! I would hire you in a heartbeat as a writer! I agree that with the constant barrage and inundation of sexuality in our culture it is extremely difficult to think our daughters, the women in our country go unaffected. I think we need to extend alot of grace and teaching on healthy sexuality in our country.

Very well written article and I agree 100%, besides Miss USA & Miss Universe (both Trump owned) never claimed to be based on education level or morals, in contrast to Miss America (now the least watched of all the pagents) which was always based on more brains than beauty and is a scholarship based, much like Junior Miss pagents.

I don't think they are assumed to be virgins any more. I'm not really sure what Miss USA is supposed to represent except perhaps a changing and evolving concept of womanhood. Personally, I think they need to eat a bit more ;)
