Missing Children - Amber Alert GPS System

Theresa L.
Earlier tonight I read this article about a little boy that fooled a hijacking from stealing his mother car after the mother left him and his three siblings alone in the vehicle to get a drink. After reading this article it made me think about all the missing children in the world, some have been lucky enough to come home while others have not.

Technology has changed all of this but not many people are aware of it or do not desire the use of it but today there is a device call the Amber Alert GPS System. Before I go into this device less look at the facts.

Fact 1: Each year 800,000 children are reported missing. If you do the math that is 2,000 children a day. Out of that 800,000 children that go missing 200,000 are taken by family members while 58,000 are taken by non-family members. The remaining 115 children are by stereotypical kidnappers that do not know the child, or barely knows the child. These kidnappers are the ones that transport the child a distance a way and later will either kill them, ransom them off, or keep them forever.

Fact 2: It was discovered in 1997 that 76.2 percent of all children that were taken were later found dead, all killed within three hours of being taken.

That is the sad reality but now there is a way to help keep your child safe. The Amber Alert GPS System is a system that is designed to help you locate your lost or missing child. How this device works is simple. The Amber Alert GPS System is a small device, your child will not even know it is there, that you can clip to your child's belt, backpack, necklace, or even place on a keychain.

The system is attached to your cell phone so at any time it will send a single to your phone letting you know where your child is at all within seconds. Another feature of the Amber Alert GPS System is a panic button directly on the device that will allow your child to alert you that he or she is in danger. The downside to this device is it will only work with a cell phone or computer. The signal is transmitted directly to a cell phone but you can have the signal sent up to four additional cell phone numbers of your choosing.

Some of the special features are:

GPS map location to your cellphone.
Safety zone that will notify you if your child steps out of the zone.
SOS button your child can use incase of emergencies.
You can monitor your child's whereabouts at all hours of the day or night.
Schedule alerts to notify you at a set time when you child is set to leave a certain location, like school.
Temperature alert that allows you to monitor your child's body tempature.
Speed alert that will tell you how fast your child is traveling (this is a great feature if your child happens to be a teenage driver).

For the Amber Alert GPS device alone it will cost you $379.00. A small price to pay for your children's safety. Besides the device you also have to purchase a subscriptions. The subscriptions start as low as $9.99 per month.

Overall it seems like a lot but if you look at the facts and consider how easily it is to take a child or for your child to get lost you may decide it is a small price to pay to keep your children safe.

Incase the inedible happens there are things you can do to prepare yourself.

Always keeps a description of your child on hand, photos are excellent for this and should be taken ever six months.
Keep dental records up to date and know where your child's medical records are located.
Have your child fingerprinted. I am a firm believer on this one and actually have Fingerprints, DNA, Videos, made of my children. Most schools will have a day for this so check with your locale schools.
If your child does come up missing call the police immediately. The law states that If your child is under 18 they have to investigate right away. Do not consider they may have just ran away, something bad could of happen and it is best to consider the worse and notify the police than to wait.

Remember when you have children it is no longer your life, it is now theirs and until they are old enough and responsible enough to take care of themselves it is our duty as a parent to parent to protect them and that is why I think the device like the Amber Alert GPS system is a good idea and do recommend considering it because in a blink of a eye the most important thing in our lives can be gone.
