Missing Sylar Newton, Age 2 - Donations to Pay for Funeral After Bones Found

There is a donation trust fund-The Sylar Newton Fund-for missing two-year-old Sylar Newton of Arizona. As stated on the Facebook page Sylar Newton DONATION Fund UPDATE, donations are strictly for Sylar and for no one else.

Created by a family member and a friend, the trust fund has two purposes: 1. If Sylar is found alive, donations will fund his medical and psychological needs. 2. If he is found deceased, the money will afford a headstone memorial-an example is shown on the Facebook site. In the second case, any leftover funds will go toward his funeral. The Sylar Newton Fund also has this proviso, which is likely defunct: "If Sylar is not located by July 25, 2011, part of the funds will be made into a reward fund for information leading to him." The proviso also states that the amount of the reward will be based on available funds. However, Law Enforcement, including the FBI, have strong reason to believe Sylar is dead.

While donors would prefer to be giving money toward finding Sylar Newton and toward funding any medical and psychological attention that he would need, it seems that the child has met with a tragic death and that donations will thus go toward a headstone and funeral expenses. His birth mother, Charity Newton, wants to give Sylar the best funeral possible.

About the Disappearance of Sylar Newton and Recovery of Bones:

Sylar Newton was last seen on July 25, 2010 before he vanished from Beaver Creek Campground-near Rimrock and about forty miles south of Flagstaff-where he was camping with his custodial mother, Christina Priem, along with Priem's own mother and children. He went to bed on the night of July 24 and was discovered missing after midnight. After nine days of searching for him, investigators came to believe the toddler is dead and began to treat the case as a criminal investigation.

On Tuesday August 10, one of the many searchers for the missing toddler discovered a child's skeletal remains-believed to be Sylar's-in an area less than two miles from the campground, "The remains were located at the bottom of a wash and likely came to rest in this area due to recent flash flooding. At this time, the remains are believed to be that of Sylar Newton, but final confirmation is still pending," Yavapai County Sheriff spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said in a press release.

An autopsy on the remains was scheduled for August 11. "There is an autopsy today, but since it involves DNA and toxicology it is going to take several days," D'Evelyn said. The report is expected to show the child's identity and the cause of death.

Police have not yet named suspects.
