Missing You

Elisa Ashley

It's overcast today.

The sky is dark, the clouds are heavy.

The leaves rustle in time with the gusts of wind.

The air is cold and reflects my heart -

Missing you.

I sit on the swing at the playground

watching our children play after school;

the air makes me shiver.

The cold steel chains of the swing in my hands

are numbing like my emotions.

I no longer cry at your absence.

I no longer smile or hurt.

I am numb

because I am frozen without you.

You make my heart beat faster.

You make me gasp with surprise and delight.

You warm me with your arms and with your love.

But today there is nothing

except the invisible embrace of the air

to comfort me.

Missing you

After reading your poem, I too can feel the chillness. The imagery adds power and punch to your poem.

Wow this is beautiful. I could feel every word in your expression of how much you miss the special someone in your life. I also could identify with trying to become emotionless to deal with the loss of someone you love.
