The premise of the book is simple. The reader is encouraged by the author to see themselves as crew members of the first mission to Mars. This will include multiple rendezvous with other unmanned vehicles which they will encounter not just in space but on the surface of Mars as well. The crew also will be subjected to extremes in temperature, gravity and even space storms along their journey into space.
The illustrations are imaginative, and cleverly drawn. And while the artist obviously did not have a mars mission to draw from information wise, he did a wonderful job of showing young readers what the first mission to Mars really might entail.
Though we don't know what Mars will hold when we finally explore this red planet, this book offers some interesting possibilities for the young reader and for those of us who enjoy reading aloud to our children as well!
I would encourage anyone with a young scientist in their life to purchase this book. It is available at most mass retailers and can most likely also be ordered at your local bookstore or checked out at your library as well. Enjoy....this vision of Mars and Earth will only come once in our lifetimes so it is well worth learning more about!
