Mississippi Night

Quickpaws
Nothing moves my spirit quite
Like a Mississippi night.
Fireflies blink off and on
'Til just before the fiery dawn,
And in the skies above, I see
A thousand stars that wink at me,
Tiny specks of Heaven's light
That gently watch me through the night.

All through majestic native trees
Blows a gentle summer breeze;
The breath of God that flows so sweetly
Fills my tender soul completely.

Crickets sing in endless song,
Chirping hymns so sweet and long,
And praising God throughout the night,
A nature lover's pure delight.

Flowers close to rest and sleep
In peaceful slumber oh so deep.
In moonlight beams before the day,
Fairies dance and laugh and play.

Even horses stop to dream
Of drinking from a mountain stream,
And galloping on hills so green
To pastures that they've never seen.

Some prefer the glaring
Of the city's modern lights.
They don't compare (and never will)
To Mississippi nights.
