Tiny Restaurant: Big on Personality, Bigger on Portions, and Biggest on Taste!
My boyfriend (a true Southerner, born and raised on BBQ) and I arrived around 7pm last Saturday. We were welcomed along the narrow walkway outside by about 20 patrons, sitting, chatting, and drinking wine while they waited. (Wine and BBQ. What an interesting combination!) Quite a pleasant atmosphere already, with warm greetings like "Ever been here before? No? It's great!" and "You'll love it!", I was surprised and impressed. 20 minutes after arrival, we got seated in a cozy corner in a restaurant with a total capacity of 48. Yes, 48. When I say cozy, I couldn't mean it more! Fortunately, the seating is set up in a way that although you're in close quarters, you don't feel cramped or squished and the servers have plenty of room to move without stepping all over the customers.
The server, albeit not too overly friendly unlike the cashier and host were, was definitely focused. She was responsible for serving our side of the restaurant, maybe 10 tables in all, at once -- quite a feat for a server to handle 10 tables at once comfortably and well, I might add. She took our order, promptly returned with twp huge cups of good ole sweet tea ($1.19 each), and took our order. We ordered a Pulled Pork sandwich ($5.99) which came with the choice of sides (Applesauce for me), and my boyfriend chose the Pulled Pork platter ($11.99) with fries and applesauce. We received our food a short less-than-10 minutes later and were overwhelmed with the portions. The sandwich, for what is truly a great price, stuffed me silly, and my boyfriend finished off the platter but just barely and that's because it tasted so great! The pork was a bit watery, for those of you who know your BBQ meat, but the flavor was delightfully delicious and the BBQ sauce had just the right zing and spice.
Great service, great price (a total tab of $25 with a generous tip), a cozy hole-in-the-wall Mom & Pop restaurant with knick-knacks all over the walls, and truly southern BBQ & sweet tea.
Don't go anywhere else in town for great down-home Southern-style BBQ!
