Missouri Tigers Advance to 2010 Women's College World Series

Missouri advanced to the 2010 Women's College World Series on Sunday by beating Oregon. World Series Games are set to begin on Thursday, June 3rd. It wasn't an easy series for Missouri either, as this was an Oregon team that had proven they could score a lot of runs in their regional games. Oregon had played in the Atlanta Regional, and that is where they upset a Georgia Tech team led by one of the best hitters in the history of women's softball. Coming into the Columbia Super Regional that Missouri was hosting, it seemed like a lot of runs could be scored, but Game 1 really turned into a great pitcher's duel between the two schools.

Kristin Nottelmann for Missouri took on Jessica Moore of Oregon, and both pitchers ended up throwing a complete game for their teams. It was Nottelmann that pitched just a little better though, shutting out the Oregon Ducks by a score of 1-0 to give the Tigers a series lead over Oregon. It was the third straight complete game for Nottelmann, who had an ERA of just 0.75 in the NCAA Tournament after the game ended. Moore had only given up four hits in her losing effort, but it showed that both teams knew they were going to need to score some runs in Game 2 if they wanted to win this best-of-three game series. Sunday's Game 2 wasn't quite as competitive though, as Kristin Nottelmann was aided by seven runs from her offense on the way to another victory for the Missouri Tigers.

Missouri is now heading back to the Women's College World Series, and has a nice long winning streak behind them as they continue their momentum. Missouri will now play its first game in the 2010 Women's College World Series against the 16th seeded Hawaii team that just upset No. 1 seed Alabama in the Tuscaloosa Super Regional. Their game will take place on Thursday, June 3rd in the first round of the World Series. The 2010 Women's College World Series is a double-elimination tournament, so all eight teams that qualify will have the chance to play at least two games during the week of competition. All eight teams will also play on June 3rd, with the teams split up into two brackets that will play until they have a winner to face the other bracket.
