Missouri's Motor Assist Helps Stranded Drivers

You've Got a Friend

Lee Hansen
Alright, let's see a show of hands if you've ever been stranded in your car due to mechanical or various reasons? Hm! It's just as I thought. Most likely we can all say, "Been there done that". And I'm sure you probably don't want a repeat performance.

Isn't it embarrassing when spectators are slowing down the traffic just to take a look at you without offering any help? It's hard enough to be in that predicament but gawking isn't going to help solve the problem.

MoDOT

The Missouri Department of Transportation has an excellent program when such crises arise. Their stated mission is, "To keep traffic moving by helping stranded drivers".

What a relief that is.

HOURS/DAYS OF OPERATION

From 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday, except holidays, Missouri's Motor Assist operators busily patrol the roads for drivers in distress situations

WHAT ROADS DO THEY PATROL?

In the Kansas City Metropolitan they are as follows as listed in their brochure

"I-70 between the Missouri/Kansas state line to Woods Chapel Road

I-35 between Parvin Road to the state line

The downtown loop, including I-670 to the Missouri/Kansas state line

I-435 from the Missouri/Kansas state line to Parvin Road

I-470 between the Triangle to Blue Ridge Boulevard"

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

They work along with police and other authorities when there are accidents. Changing tires, delivering gas and removing debris from the highway are just some other things they do to.

CONCLUSION

If you're ever in that undesirable position call *55 in Missouri and *47 in Kansas to reach the Highway Patrol. Please stay put in your car until help arrives which is usually within minutes.

While no one likes to be stranded, it's nice to know you've got a friend looking out for you.
