Mistakes I've Made

Are the absolute only true things that I can ever call my own

These screw-ups in decision making

These screw-ups in behavior

These screw-ups in right and wrong

Have cost me much

And caused others to suffer

My meager brain does learn though

Perhaps the "hard way"

But over the decades

The same mistakes

Have never been repeated

This is a low form of wisdom

Taking the choices we make

And altering our path

In so much

As we are not subject to the pain again

And as time marches to the horizon

The effort we take

Prior to committing ourselves to action

Increases as well

In hopes to not stumble

To not fall

Into the pits of foolishness again
