Mitt Romney Withdraws from Presidential Race

Mitt Romney withdraws from presidential race: Despite Mitt Romney's recent promise to stay in the presidential race, it is now being reported by many sources, including CNN, that he is about to drop out.

It is expected that he will confirm or deny this when he is scheduled to speak soon. Romney's campaign seemed to be doing well at first, but on Super Tuesday he failed to win many states. McCain was a very strong competitor for Romney and, apparently was too strong and stopped Romney easily on Tuesday.

If Romney actually is withdrawing from the race, it will give the Republican nomination to McCain.

The Associated Press has just begun reporting that Romney has officially dropped out of the race.

Romney said: "This is not an easy decision for me. I hate to lose. My family, my friends and our supporters ... many of you right here in this room ... have given a great deal to get me where I have a shot at becoming president. If this were only about me, I would go on. But I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, I feel I must now stand aside, for our party and for our country."

He said he feels dropping out is his only choice and that staying in the race is only hurting the Republican party's chances at winning the election. The difference in numbers of delegates at this point should have shown Romney that he had no chance, his 294 hardly comparing to McCain's 707.

It is unlikely that Huckabee's candidacy was responsible for Romney's decline, as even with Huckabee's 195 delegates he Romney would still be far behind McCain.

Romney put up a good fight; he had 11 states while McCain had 13, but the differences in size gave McCain many more delegates giving him a definite advantage and causing Romney's withdrawal.

He's dropping out so he can lay off his entire staff of lobbyists and spin doctors.
