Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is presently among the fastest growing sports in the world today. It's catching on for numerous reasons. For one, it's a much more active sport than its relatives-- boxing, kickboxing, and wrestling. Mixed martial artists conquer a full range of interdisciplinary techniques so that they can strategically employ parts from each discipline. Mixed martial arts bear the sport combat or doctrine of "whatever works" to defeat your enemy in a hand to hand combat situation. The maneuvers can be categorized into striking and grappling holds.
As a modernized version of traditional martial arts, it combines battle skills involving Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Thai boxing, wrestling, kickboxing, judo and boxing. Contestants can freely draw upon a wide range of tactics, such as lightning-fast punches used in boxing, knee strikes used by a karate master, elbow blows shown in kung fu or grappling practices perfected by Brazilian jiu-jitsu artists. MMA techniques fall under several categories. Grappling moves are used such as throws, takedowns, submission holds, pinning holds, and cinch holds.
With mixed martial arts, the practices are more relaxed and not as exacting. The attire is open choice and students don't need to wear a Judo-gig or other uniforms. Shorts and a t-shirt along with protective gear (mouth guard, cup, and gloves) are easily accommodated. And, the competitions are open to both men and women.
Pulling from multiple martial arts, gladiator-fighters aim to either knock their opponent unconscious or get the opponent to surrender.Mixed martial Arts is shockingly exciting, from the initial submissions, to the knockouts, to the incredible athleticism. It's fascinating, though somewhat violent. And with its aggressive action, the hard-hitting impact of the blows can seem to make other adrenaline-rush sports obsolete.
And despite of instances of bad press surrounding these contests, and the very raw and aggressive nature of the full body combat, there have been no deaths in league sanctioned mixed martial arts fights. Also, no MMA fighter has died during a fight. Injuries are uncommon occurrences, largely because of the intervention of the referees at the appropriate time. Given the increasing national exposure and self-regulation, this sport appears bound to continue to grow.
