MJ Soffe Athletic Shorts Review

There is nothing like a pair of comfortable cotton shorts and I have been quite particular about my sportswear, especially bottoms. They ought to be quite comfortable, made of fabric that is gentle on skin, and with enough ease for leg movement. I own two of these MJ Soffe athletic shorts, one in baby pink and the other one in grey mélange, which seem to be working quite well for me. Although the label on the MJ Soffe athletic shorts says it is 50% cotton and 50% polyester, it is notably comfortable, as it would be for a 100% cotton fabric.

The fabric feel of the Soffe's is superb nevertheless. It is soft and breathable. Also it is durable, can withstand many washes and dries pretty quickly. I find it to be perfectly ideal for warm weather conditions. What else can you ask for? Moreover, the MJ Soffe athletic shorts are so roomy that they allow free movement making them the best choice for gym, team sports, running and of course cheerleading. The best thing about these Soffe shorts is that they require pretty minimal care, and unlike other soft fabric materials these shorts do not tend to stretch, get distorted after a few washes and hang loosely on my body.

However, the sizing seems to be a bit ambiguous. I had a heck of a lot of confusion initially and I was wondering if I had really lost weight and it did not show! In fact I actually had to buy a size smaller than my usual size. And even the smaller size seemed a bit baggy in the beginning. But, thankfully after a wash it shrunk to fit me perfectly. Also, I was slightly surprised as well as disappointed to find that it did not have any pocket. As far as I remember all the previous styles similar to this one had at least one back pocket. So if a back pocket, preferably invisible, can be added to the MJ Soffe Athletic shorts it would be a great utility and would spare me the burden of carrying an additional mobile pouch or a mini purse.

For some reason I find the craftsmanship of the Soffe Athletic Shorts not up to the mark. The stitches seem distorted at certain places and even small gathers at the hemline, perhaps due to excessive tension. In fact when I looked at it closely, it does not seem to be the usual MJ product with impeccably straight stitch lines, perfect cuts and neat edge stitches.

Anyway, the fabric quality of the MJ Soffe athletic shorts is exceptional and so is the fit. Or rather I should say the revised fit! I am planning to buy a few more, preferably in darker hues like ink blue and perhaps black. However, I would really love if the back pocket could be added. I would not think twice then.
