MLB Trade Deadline Buyers

Wordsleuth
It is definetly a sellers market at the MLB trading deadline. There list of buying teams is very long. Here is a list of teams that will be looking to buy before July 31st.

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers are in need of some bullpen help. With the return of Joel Zumaya in question they cannot afford to wait for him to come back and hope he is healthy. The playoffs are about bullpens and they will address their big issue. Several closers available are interesting the Tigers.

Atlanta Braves

The Braves have bullpen needs just like the Tigers, but they also need a bat. If Andruw Jones can come back in the second-half, than that is like adding a bat, but if not they need to shop for one. They are in talks to acquire Teixiera, and are also interested in Konerko and Dmitri Young. The Braves also need bullpen help and are in the running for the same relievers as the Tigers.

New York Mets

The Mets are in need of a new second baseman after their starting second baseman went down with a break in his leg. The Mets will be active in trying to get either Mark Loretta from the Astros or Mark Grudzeilanek from the Royals. The Mets, like almost every other team, are also looking to get some bullpen help. Wagner has been good, but no one else has been consistent in their bullpen.

Cleveland Indians

The Indians have the offense, but that isn't what wins in the playoffs. The Indians would probably like to add another starter, but their biggest concern is the bullpen. Joe Borowski will be a liability in the playoffs when the games are much tighter. He could also be a liability during the regular season, causing them to miss the playoffs all together.

Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox will always be in the mix at the break. The Sox are reportedly shopping for a first baseman, with the option of trading Mike Lowell. They have been rumored for Mark Teixiera. The Sox are also going to be in the mix for Brad Lidge, who they have been rumored to be after for years.

Interestingly, the Red Sox are rumored to be in the hunt for Mark Loretta. Maybe this shows a lack of faith in their rookie second baseman Dustin Pedroia. The Red Sox have also inquired about Todd Helton again.

Los Angeles Angels

The Angels seem to be in the running for almost everybody on offense. They are in the running for Teixiera, but they look more likely to get Paul Konerko. It is also possible that they could go after former Angel Troy Glaus or possibly Mike Lowell if the Red Sox do trade him.

Seattle Mariners

The Mariners have sent scouts to all corners of the baseball world looking for some starting pitching help. The Mariners are one of the few teams without glaring bullpen problems, but their rotation is another story. One rumor has the Mariners trading Sexson for Matt Morris. They could also be in the running for one of the white Sox pitchers.

New York Yankees

The Yankees look intent on making the playoffs this season. They are interested in trading for some pieces, most notably at first base. They are not in to get Teixiera, as they don't have the required pieces, and Konerko looks out of reach, but Dmitri Young has been rumored to be on his way to the Bronx. The Yankees could also be in the market for some bullpen help.

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks are in the running in the National League West but they have some offensive shortcomings that need to be addressed. The Diamondbacks look to be the front runners to land Jermaine Dye from the White Sox. They are one of the only teams interested and are desperate enough to offer something the Sox might like.

San Diego Padres

The Padres bullpen is starting to show some signs of wear. The Padres could really use some fresh relievers, but there will be some high bidding for relievers like Chad Cordero and Brad Lidge. I look for the Padres to try to get Jon Rauche from the Nationals.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The injury to Jason Schmidt put the Dodgers in a position where they need a pitcher. The Dodgers could look for someone like Jon Garland, who could do well for them. A bat could also help the Dodgers since they are in the National League West, which is not a hitting division. They might try for Mike Lowell of Troy Glaus, but they will probably look for a first baseman with the thoughts that James Loney can't stay hot forever.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers need a pitcher with their recent injury woes. The Brewers were interested in Mark Burhle before he resigned with the White Sox. I look for them to try for one of the other Chicago pitchers. Vazquez might do well in Milwaukee. They also could be one of the few teams to want Contreras, since he could be more in their price range. His hefty contract probably makes that impossible though.

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs have come back strong in the National League Central. They could use some bullpen help to stay in the race thought. Houston will probably not deal with the Cubs since they are in the same division. Chad Cordero or Jon Rauche would look nice to the Cubs.
