After only two years removed from their World Series championship, the White Sox are sinking fast and it looks like they will be the biggest seller before this trade deadline. While they are unlikely to move everyone they want, they should be able to move a good number of their older players if the price is right. The Sox want to trade Paul Konerko, Javier Vazquez, Jon Garland, Jermaine Dye and Jose Contreras.
The Rangers will be big sellers, especially since they are in last place with no chance to make the playoffs. They have some key pieces that other teams may want. They want to move Mark Teixiera, Sammy Sosa and Eric Gange. The prices that the Rangers are asking for each of these players is very high and they will have to come to their senses if they are going to move any of them. Teixiera looks likely to move, but Sosa and Gagne will be much tougher to trade.
San Fransisco Giants
The San Fransisco Giants will be sellers, but to what extent? It looks like they will try their best to trade Matt Morris, to the Mariners or Phillies, but it is not known what else they want to trade. Barry Bonds was rumored, but he won't go anywhere, and the Giants have a good bullpen. The Giants could move some of their relievers before the break.
The Nationals are in dead last and they have no hope for the playoffs. The Nationals are looking to possibly move closer Chad Cordero, set-up man John Rauche and first-baseman Dmitri Young. The Nationals are not set on moving any of these players except Young, since Cordero and Rauche are under contract for next season. They are shopping everyone, but will only sell for the right price. Young, however, is a free-agent after this season and his .340 batting average makes him a prime target for a DH position in the American League.
The Kansas City Royals have two pieces that are interesting other teams. Second baseman Mark Grudzielanek is in demand, especially for the New York Mets, who just lost their second baseman. They also have Octavio Dotel who could help a team in search of bullpen help.
The Houston Astros are out of it and appear to be selling off. They will probably sell any of their three possible closers, Dan Wheeler, Chad Qualls or Brad Lidge. The one they trade may be based on the best offer. The Astros are also being asked about second baseman Mark Loretta. The Mets are also interested in him as well as the Boston Red Sox.
Cincinatti Reds
The Reds will be sellers at the deadline, but it is not known if they have anyone available other than Adam Dunn. Dunn is surely on the move. The Reds looked interested in moving Griffey earlier in the season, but will probably not do that. They could also trade someone from their bullpen, like their closer Weathers.
The Blue Jays have said that they will not be seliing before the deadline, but since they are far out of the picture they will likely make a trade for the right offer. The Angels could be interested in Troy Glaus.
The Pirates don't have much to offer other teams, but set-up man Demarso Marte and their closer, Torres, should interest some teams desperate for bullpen help.

Post a CommentCool article. Thanks.
Octavio Dotel's had arm trouble in the past I'm skeptical. There are always rumors that the Giants are going to break up their retirement home ball clubs, but they haven't yet. Bochy is the right kind of manager for a young team as well.
