M&M Plans to Introduce New Models

Auto manufacturer M&M is planning for 10 new models in the next two years. The new models will include both passenger as well as utility cars. They will utilize the existing platform to manufacture these new models.

Recently Mahindra has introduced its new model, Xylo, based on Scorpio's platform.

As most manufacturers internationally follow the manufacturing model of using every single platforms for several models, thus reducing the cost of building a completely new platform for new models.

M&M is also planning for their entry to the truck segment, initially aiming at four wheeled low tonnage commercial vehicles below 2-ton capacity. The JV between M&M and Navistar would launch a truck by 2010. According to Pawan Goenka, President of M&M, their plans are running under schedule and there has been no delay or postponement.

Mahindra & Mahindra are gathering success in the passenger car market. The flagship model, Scorpio, is its proven symbol of the success. More additions to its product portfolio will further strengthen its position in the Indian automobile industry.
