Red Cabbage with Apple recipe
1 large onion, cut in half and
thinly sliced in long slivers
2 tablespoons oil
1 red cabbage, shredded
1 medium-size tart apple, peeled and shredded
1 teaspoon caraway seed (optional)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 cup water
Salt, to taste
1 clove minced garlic

Heat the oil. Add onion and cook until soft. Add cabbage and apple. Stir often for 5 minutes, then stir in caraway seed, brown sugar, red wine vinegar, water, salt and garlic. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until cabbage is very tender and most of the liquid has evaporated. Serve hot!

Buttery Cabbage recipe
Serves: 6 to 8

1/4 pound bacon
1 medium head cabbage, coarsely chopped
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

In a large pot, cook the bacon over medium-high heat until crisp. Remove the bacon from the pot; let cool, then crumble and set aside.

Add the remaining ingredients to the pot. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender, stirring frequently.

Sprinkle with the crumbled bacon, toss, and serve.

Sweet and Sour Sauerkraut recipe
1 large can sauerkraut
1 cup catsup or tomatoes
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 large onion

Sauté onion in margarine. Add a large can of sauerkraut that has been rinsed and drained. Add brown sugar, catsup, salt and pepper to taste, and simmer for at least 45 minutes.

Bavarian Sauerkraut recipe
1 apple
1 large carrot
2 ounces butter
1 can sauerkraut
1 teaspoon caraway seed
4 slices bacon
4 knockwurst
Salt and pepper

Grate apple and carrot. Melt butter in a casserole. Stir in sauerkraut,apple, carrot, caraway seed and seasonings. Top with bacon slices and bake at 375 degrees F for 40 minutes, covered. Remove lid and arrange knockwurst on top. Return to oven and bake another 15 minutes.
