Pirates comes into the story In the Caribbean, during the climax of Europe's struggle for power. You will have choice with who you work with/for, the French, British, and Spanish all are options, but be careful, the time of peace is only there until someone steps on someones foot. War breaks out regularly for dominance. But, if you don't like the idea of being ruled by a nation, you can work for yourself, and be a true Pirate. Just remember, once you choose, there's no going back.
This is only the beginning though, there are many other aspects that make this game worthwhile. You can choose your fighting style out of three choices. Florentine, which is used to confuse and surprise your enemies with flips and spins and cool sword tricks, Fencing, which is the honorable fighting style, then theres my personal favorite, dirty fighting. Need I explain that one?
But of course, what is a pirate without his ship? There are many to choose from in this game. Cargo ships to carry items such as food and clothing for profit, pirate sloops that have more speed and power, and European, which will have the monster ships of war, the best of power, but the slowest of speed. The ships are highly customizable, It's like Need for speed: Pirates Underground.
Player vs. player (pvp) is also very popular in this game. You can take over ports (unless you're a pirate) for the good of your nation, Attack enemy ports and natives to the area, or, if you feel really sneaky and underhanded, give them lots of rum and guns (I've named this Rumin' n' Gun'n) and let them take care of the dirty work themselves! Eventually, the surrounding area to a port will become so unorganized, it will be up for grabs, this is where the fun starts, Everyone wants more territory, so you're not the only one there. Eventually the fight becomes HUGE, with ships sailing everywhere, pirates fighting with swords and cannons shooting into the ocean, until finally someone is a new ruler of the area.
If someone manages to kill you, you're in trouble. This isn't like World of Warcraft, you can't just res at a spirit healer. Your ship can be destroyed, leaving you as nothing but a lowly landlubber.
Thats not the end of it though. Pirates allows you to grow your on product (no, were not talking about the happy tabaccie.) For instance, you can grow sugarcane, turn it into rum, and sell it to other pirates! its very hard to choose exactly what you want to do.
Pirates is sure to be a hit game, So get ready you scallywags, It's in Beta testing now. You'll be keeping it steady as she goes before you know it.
