Headlines similar to "Moammar Gadhafi killed by his own people" are everywhere. Every news channel in the country, and many internationally, are focusing on this story. Gadhafi has had a stronghold over Libya for decades and his reign has turned Libya into a pariah. News reports of his death show Libyans celebrating, cheering, dancing and laughing. While exactly who killed him is not exactly clear, it appears it was one or more of his own people. As the media unfolds, we will likely learn more about this and the details will become more clear.

In a news conference in Tripoli, Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril said, "We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Moammar Gadhafi has been killed."

Moammar Gadhafi, killed by his own people, is reported to have died of the wounds he suffered as a result of a harsh and violent beating. "Video footage showed Gadhafi, dazed and bloodied but clearly still alive and gesturing with his hands as he was dragged from a pick-up truck by jostling government soldiers who hit him and pulled his hair. He then appeared to fall to the ground and was enveloped by the crowd. NTC officials later announced Gadhafi had died of his wounds after capture," reports KCEN TV News.

After his death, Gadhafi's body was paraded around the streets of Misrata. A doctor who accompanied the body states that two bullet wounds are ultimately responsible for Gadhafi's death: one to his head and one to his chest.

Now, the Libyan people have the chance to rebuild their country and their sense of freedom. While some are still debating whether or not Gadhafi is truly dead, the Libyans seem ready to accept the news and move on to a life without his tyrannic rule.

It will be interesting to see how Libya reacts throughout the coming weeks. It will take them far longer to do what it necessary to recover from the damage that Gadhafi has caused throughout his reign. In fact, it will likely take them several years to start seeing noticeable progress. However, just knowing that Moammar Gadhafi, killed by his own people, no longer has a presence in this world will likely help the Libyans sleep much better tonight, and for many nights to come.
