Mob Wives: Only Catfights and Bare Breasts Can Save This Hot Sick Mess

Miss Fortune
After looking forward to the new VH1 reality show Mob Wives I can say only one thing after the initial episode has aired - if the best part of the show is the theme song then they are going to have to have a lot of catfights and nudity to make it a success. Knowing that nudity isn't an option with VH1's line of programming I guess we'll be relegated to the four main cast members continually being at odds with each other. It's obvious that Renee Graziano wants to be the queen of the pack but you have to admit, she got put in her place several times by the other mafia princesses.

So what do I think of the first episode?Honestly, I was disappointed. You don't live that kind of lifestyle when your husband or father is in jail. Granted, there were a few passing mentions of employment but when Renee Graziano caved in a few times and said her father would "cut her off" if she associated with Karen Gravano it made me want to cringe. You are an adult yet you cower in fear with old-school mafia mentality. I guess if you want to have everything handed to you, that's the price you pay.

Drita D'Avanzo is hard to peg. She tries way too hard to be a "tough chick" but it only comes off as arrogance. I pray that all of the kids involved in this train wreck of a show have some other strong female influences in their lives because if these are the only role models that they have, well, they too can spend their spare time reenacting Karen Hill's role from Goodfellas where she pines for her beloved Henry and refuses to admit that he ever did anything wrong. I guess that is what really left the worst taste in my mouth. All four women, to some extent, are living in some delusional fantasy world and VH1 is there it profit from it. If the stars of Jersey Shore can command $800,000 to go out drinking, hooking up and doing the "GTL" routine then I have to assume that Facciolo, D'Avanzo, Graziano and Gravano are getting at least 400K for the first ten episodes.

None of the women are overly attractive; they look aged and worn but that too comes with the "lifestyle". That is a big part of the show - who you are, how much fear comes with your last name and reputation. This isn't the 1980's and the big mafia scams with gasoline taxes and protection fees are long gone. Staten Island must be the last bastion for the highly endangered "mafia princesses". Time seems to have stopped there. I will continue watching the show but I cling to the tried and true motto of putting your best foot forward and VH1 didn't really serve up anything tasty with the first episode.

I feel a bit better not knowing any of the women featured in the show now. :o) Been out of town on a job a lot and have lost touch of tv shows. Even the ones I know now have different cast! Thanks for helping me catch up, Freaky. Hope your spring is going well! :oD
