Mochila.com: Another Market for Content Producers

A new venture in online syndication, Mochila.com is a marketplace for quality newspaper and magazine generated content, and seems to be a mix between Ac and constantcontent. Signing up for an account is free, but you must be approved to become a member (buyer or seller). The types of content you can buy are sell, text, photo, illustration, audio, video, etc...

You can sign up on their website, just answer some questions about you and your company*. It should not take that long, maybe a few minutes. If your application is approved you will get an introduction by email more than likely on a Monday.

If you are looking to buy content, log into the system and start searching the marketplace. There is even a way to get free content with AdMatch. With Mochila's unique technology a seller's content can be downloaded into any publishing system, and can be received immediately after purchasing. This gives Mochila that edge over most content providers, for both sellers and buyers.

If you a seller, after your application is accepted you will need to go set up your organization and publication profiles, establishing your pricing and licensing guidelines. Then you start uploading your content to be sold on Mochila's marketplace. They market content for some of the best names in media (Associated Press, American Profile, Bridal guide, Hearst Magazines, etc...)

As the seller you get to price your content, choose the licensing rules, and make any other restrictions or embargoes you want. With Mochila's business model, sellers receives an unprecedented share of the revenue from syndicated transactions

Advertisers are not left out; Mochila has a placement and revenue-sharing opportunities for them. They can align ads with relevant content. Which increases that chances of your ads being seen and clicked on, and that is good for the advertisers. Of course, content sellers and buyers are welcome to participate in Mochila's Ad network.

If you want to sell content on Mochila, you should read their content policy. It is standard, not to infringe or misappropriate any copyright, trademark, trade secret, or any intellectual property. No promoting racism, ethnic offense, or hatred is any way.

By agreeing to the membership terms when you sign up, you are giving Mochila nonexclusive, and worldwide license to; one: Convert your content to XML, HTML or any other format, and modify it for formatting purposes. Two: Insert ads and other promo materials into your content (when you select to AdMatch option). Three: reproduce, display, and distribute your content, publicly or otherwise.

The only downside is Mochila's commission; they do not mention it anywhere other than in the membership terms. It is explained like this,

Member Content distributed through Mochila to a Permitted Republisher, Mochila will be entitled to a commission equal to either:

1: the greater of (i) thirty percent (30%) of the License Fees for such item of Member Content or

(ii) Ten Dollars ($10), if such item of Member Content is distributed under the Standard License Fee Option; or the portion of Ad Revenues not payable by Mochila to Member and the Permitted Republisher, if such item of Member Content distributed under the AdMatch Option.

They will also charge you storage fees for non-textual content (e.g. photos, video, and audio content) that you upload for sale on the marketplace that exceeds ten gigabytes (10GB). Mochila will notify you and if you do not remove content (within thirty days of being notified) to bring it under the10GB limit, they will charge $10 per excess gigabyte. In addition, you agree to let them take this fee out of any monies they may owe you for content.
