Scientists have worked to try and isolate mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from what they believe to be "pre-human" ancestors. Having identified certain characteristics, they have speculated about how much mutation has taken place, over a guesstimated period of time. I find it very interesting that many scientist have based the bulk of their theories on speculation (such as speculating how much time MUST have passed between various mutations in the mtDNA). They basically chose periods of time that reflected their own prejudices about the time frame of human evolution. Using these speculations, and working backwards through time, they have tried to locate what they believe to be the one female ancestor of all humans and essentially the first specimen on the human side of the "missing link." This is where the "mocking" comes into play. What do you think they might call this one female that they believe to be the first true human in the evolutionary chain? That's right: Mitochondrial Eve. This is nothing short of mocking religion. They are using the name from the Biblical account of the creation of the first woman as a shot at those who might believe in that account. Such is obviously meant as an insult to believers of the Bible story--a way of saying that they have found the "true Eve."
This attitude (in my opinion) is a reflection of the mentality that scientists are intelligent, and religious people are ignorant. How could one be so stupid as to believe that God created one man and one woman? Interestingly enough, they believe that all humans can be traced back to just one woman!
Over the last few years, most (if not all) of the data that has been collected concerning mtDNA and "Mitochondrial Eve" has been debunked. In fact, the collection, recording and interpretation of the data has been so poorly done that the whole concept of "Mitochondrial Eve" has been completely rejected by most scientists. Harrub and Thompson quote from the Annals of Human Genetics concerning this very point. In an article entitled "To Err is Human", geneticist Peter Forster of Cambridge University said: "more than half of the mtDNA sequencing studies ever published contain obvious errors." He continued, "...fundamental research papers, such as those claiming a recent African origin for mankind...have been criticized and rejected due to the extent of primary data errors." (The Truth About Human Origins, p. 126.) Having seen how much has been disproven in the realm of evolution, you would think that its proponents would put off their "holier than thou" attitudes, and find a better way of expressing their own ideas. They certainly have no room for mocking Bible believers for their beliefs!
My brother recently wrote a short blog post on his Facebook account, where he stated that evolution is a faith. The difference between the evolutionist and the creationist is that the creationist admits to having his faith! Evolutionists want to act as if they are proving things, and yet over and over again they have been proven wrong. Many have even gone to great lengths to fake evidence to try and prove their theories. And yet, they continue to mock religion. More people need to realize just how much is lacking in the theory of Evolution. If people would honestly evaluate the theory, they would see that Evolution is accepted on faith every bit as much as Creationism. Perhaps some day the theory of Evolution will be taught in its entirety, with all of its inconsistencies and inaccuracies. Until then, "intellectuals" will continue to mock those who believe in God, and the biblical account of creation.

Kris, I gave this a big thumbs up. I am a Christian Apologetics writer (see my articles to see what I mean) & I continually receive ridicule, barbs, labels, & yes, mockings. I receive quite a few angry, mean-spirited and hostile private messages too, but this has not slowed me, but made me all the power determined to expose the theory of evolution as a theory in search of evidence. It can not even pass the Scientific Method: observable, measurable, repeatable & falsifiable, and thus is doomed for ever to remain inconclusively unproven. Well done Kris. Thanks. : - )
