No major injuries or significant structural damage have been reported after an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale hit the Greater Los Angeles area on Tuesday. The quake's epicenter, or point of origin, was reported to be in Chino Hills.

Shaking was felt in West L.A., San Fernando Valley, Orange County, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and even as far away as Las Vegas, NV. At least 26 aftershocks were reported in the first hour following the quake. Kate Hutton of Cal Tech said she wouldn't be surprised if people continued feeling the aftershocks in the coming days.

At LAX a water pipe main broke and ground control radar went out for a while, but no major damage was reported. Inspectors were busy checking the structural integrity of bridges, roadways, and other structures in the L.A. area.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has activated the California Office of Emergency Services.
