You are tired as you are getting out of your car. It has been a busy day at work and you are exhausted. You see your children coming towards you, they are begging you to play basketball. You tell them maybe after you have a little rest.

You have made a mistake. You should have said yes. It would surprise you how much energy you would have after a little game of basketball with your children. Did you know that you can use moderate exercises as an enjoyable fitness workout?

By exercising at a moderate pace for only 30 minutes a day, you will feel a lot better both physically as well as mentally? According to the May, 2009 American Journal of Preventive Medicine moderate intensity of exercising is equal to walking at 100 steps for 1 minute, or 3000 steps at 30 minutes. So, a 30 minute game of playing sports with your children will do wonders for you.

It will also improve your appetite and sharpens your mental facilities in problem solving. Of course you will also feel better in the morning because it was easier to sleep because you played basketball with your children for only 30 minutes. So, when they ask you to play, say "Sure, I will feel better".

So, now we know how great moderate exercise to fitness workout really is, what other exercises are there. Below are some exercises you should consider.

1. Walking is a great exercise. You can walk the dog, with your partner or one of your children. Why not get your family to go walking with you on a daily basis and not only will you be burning calories but spending some quality time with your family.

2. Yoga is a great way to limber up the body, but it also will help you to focus the mind. Yoga is an effective exercise that energizes not only the body but also the mind. You will want to learn some basic yoga positions that are not too complicated. You can relax and at the same time you can stretch!

3. Get involve in community sports. Every community has leagues for basketball, football, baseball, tennis or badminton. I have found continuing education courses is a great place to meet people who play tennis or even golf. Ok, I can hear the joking, how do you burn calories at a golf course? You do not use those golf carts, you walk the course, at a par 5 course you can walk as much as 4500 yards through the front nine. Many doctors will recommend sports as an effective way to stay fit and healthy.

4. Many employers have exercise programs, join them. If your employer does not have an exercise program start one? You can talk to your colleagues, and if you find some that are interested have a little chat with your boss. Not only will you burn some calories but you will also bond with your fellow workers. This can be done 30 minutes a day two or three days a week. If all else fails you can go on a walk on your lunch break.

Making moderate exercises a part of your fitness workout will surprise you about how many calories you will burn. Doing these moderate exercises of the same amount every day can burn well over 150 calories a day. If you start jogging you can burn over 1,000 calories a day!
