Moderation and Balance Are the Keys to a Successful Life

Moderation and Balance

Kurt Evans
When you break life down into the simple things, moderation and balance are the keys to a successful life.

Balance

When we're little and we are first learning how to walk, we're trying to master balance. As we're gradually able to take more steps, we slowly work up the ability to take more and more steps. When learning to walk, failure is not an option. Can you imagine a world full of people that gave up on learning how to walk? We would be a bunch of cry babies.

Moderation And Balance

Moderation and balance are things that we don't often think about in life. It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks and addictions can take hold of us quickly and devour us, if, we're not aware of what's going on.

Successful Life

As human beings, we all want to live a successful life. We all pretty much want the same things: peace, happiness, and serenity.

Moderation

When it comes to moderation, a little bit of something is good, but a lot of it just may kill you. An example of this is water. Water is good for you in moderation to keep you hydrated and healthy. Too much water though, can kill you when used in excess.

Balance

Nature seems to have the perfect balance to be able to support life. You plant a seed and you wait a while, then it grows. A little rain, a little sun, and then you have life springing forth out of the ground. Amazing, huh? Perfect balance.

All That Life Has To Offer

Kind of like our bodies, we feed it and it grows. Our body is our vessel that we use to participate in the world around us. If we take care of our vessels;(a.k.a. our bodies) then we can experience all that life has to offer.

The Right Balance

Finding the right balance in life can be tricky, depending upon how you go about it. The right balance between work and play is not always easy to determine. Work can be overbearing and stressful at times, but, so can play, if, you let it get out of control.

Moderation And The Normal Drinker

When you take things in moderation, you take it a little bit at a time. An example of moderation would be a normal drinker who can have one or two glasses of wine with dinner and be fine with it for the rest of the night. The normal drinker is able to use alcohol in moderation and balance it out with other foods.

Moderation And The Alcoholic

The alcoholic on the other hand, doesn't know the meaning of the term moderation or balance when it comes to alcohol. To the alcoholic, alcohol means going from sober to drunk in less than sixty seconds. The alcoholic doesn't care if they fall flat on their face when their drunk because they feel like they don't have a care in the world.

An Alcoholic Mind

Moderation and balance can be applied to anything in life. Too much of this, and too little of that, it doesn't fair out too well for an alcoholic mind like myself.

Alcoholic Thinking, Addiction, And Madness

When introduced to alcoholic thinking, moderation and balance are new terms that we don't understand; or comprehend. We alcoholics are not idiots(or so we thought) we just want to have a good time. Is there anything wrong with that? We would be normal, after all, if an addiction to alcohol wasn't fueling our madness.

The Alcoholic And Their Thinking

The problem for the alcoholic remains in their thinking, when an alcoholic is drunk, if something feels good, then a whole lot of it is even better. It's not until the next day when we a have a raging headache, that we realize the errors of our ways. And, even when we realize the errors of our ways, our addiction to alcohol is so strong that we feel like our body needs alcohol in order to survive, thus affecting our mind and body wreaking chaos wherever we go.

Addiction To Alcohol

Our addiction to alcohol will often have us drooling for it. Our thirst quenches it and we feel like we must have it. We can feel the blood coursing through our veins as we salivate over the next drink of alcohol.

The Alcoholic

For the alcoholic, once that first drop of alcohol hits the tip of their tongue, it's lights out and game over. In my case, there was no guarantee that I would even remember where I was, what I did, or, who I was with. When I was drunk, all morality was out the window and let the good times roll. For me, those good times would lead to obnoxious behavior and I would be kicked out of every place in town.

Simple Things

It all comes back to moderation and balance. The small, simple things; a little bit of this, a little bit of that, not too much and not too little, just right.

Obsessed

The next time you get obsessed about something, just remember this lesson on moderation and balance, and the role they play in having a successful life.
