Modern Bathroom Accessories for Under $50

Tonya Hillukka

The modern contemporary style is all about clean lines and a sleek look. Each of the elements should blend seamlessly together, accessories and all. Nothing frivolous, just modern simplicity. So, how can you accessorize such a minimalistic bathroom?

For less than $50, there are a number of ways you can update your modern bath. Just add a couple new accessories in oil-rubbed bronze, chrome or nickel and let them do their work.

Oil-Rubbed Bronze Toilet Paper Holder

Oil-rubbed bronze is currently the trendy color for hardware and fixtures. This recessed toilet paper holder from the Millbridge collection is sleek and modern, and it only costs $14.99 to $21.80. It will blend right in with the rest of your contemporary decor.

Robe Hook -- or Curtain Tie-Back

Robe hooks can double as towel hooks--and, in this case, as a curtain tie-back. This Anne at Home robe hook / curtain tie-back is simple, sleek and very inexpensive at only $11.79 to $15.52. You can get as many, or as few, as you need.

Chrome Grab Bar

Grab bars add a safety feature to the shower or tub area in a bathroom. They can also make a design statement, if they fit in with the rest of your modern decor. This sixteen-inch chrome grab bar from Moen is a smart investment at $17.10 to $27.89.

Glass Tumbler Toothbrush Holder

Keep your toothbrushes organized in a cutting-edge wall mounted Fresca toothbrush holder made of glass and brass with a quadruple chrome finish. This ultra modern design costs from $23.96 to $25.99, depending on where you buy it from.

Sleek Soap or Lotion Dispenser

Not only is this Delta dispenser sleek and modern, but it also mounts right onto the countertop to minimize clutter in the bathroom. You can use it for either lotion or soap; just make sure you buy it before ordering the vanity, unless there is already a hole in your existing top. At $23.62 to $40.26, it is an affordable splurge.

More modern accessory ideas:

Avoid shower curtains, if possible, and opt for a walk-in shower or one with a glass door. But if that is not possible, look for either solid curtains or ones with geometric patterns or stripes and contrasting colors. Stay away from ornate mirrors, and lean toward mirrors with a frame with straight lines, or none at all. Any other accessories should be sleek and contemporary to coordinate with the rest of your decor.

I am so amazed at the number of modern accessories now available for bathrooms. I recently found the best accessory ever -- a tank hanging TP holder which is a godsend for our kids bathroom which was designed without a place to hang toilet paper.
