Birth stone jewelry is a thoughtful and personal choice that will be treasured for years to come. It is appropriate for birthdays of course, but will also put a smile on any mom's face when given as a Mother's Day gift. A piece of jewelry will be loved even more if it includes all the birth stones of her children or grandchildren.
For a baby shower gift, I have actually used the birth stone of the mom to be, the dad to be and the birth stone of the baby, all together on a beautiful bracelet with a heart shaped clasp. The mother absolutely adored it!
A lovely pair of earrings made with birth stone gems are a sure bet for a graduation gift, especially if the birth stone is pearl or diamond! The possibilities are almost endless. I have even seen birth stone book markers for sale!
This chart features the birth month and the corresponding gemstone with some of the properties of the stones. There are other birth stone charts as well, such as traditional birth stone charts, crystal birth stone charts and others. I have used this one most in my handcrafted jewelry designs, because I love working with gemstones.
January - garnet - wards off bad dreams and protects travelers from misfortune
February - amethyst - promotes peaceful sleep and an overall sense of spiritual well-being
March - aquamarine - has a calming effect on couples and helps reduce dependence on drugs
April - diamond - brings forth purity and draws abundance and clarity of thought
May - emerald - revitalizes us, restores balance and heals old wounds
June - pearl - taps inner wisdom and nurtures the growth of love
July - ruby - promotes success and confident self esteem
August - peridot - helps to heal bruised egos and prevents jealousy
September - sapphire - enhances creativity and encourages faithfulness and loyalty
October - opal - sparks creativity and helps people enjoy their lives
November - topaz - helps with compassion and communication
December - turquoise - provides understanding, encourages attention to detail and success
As with any jewelry, the most important thing is the way it looks. With birth stone jewelry, there is that extra layer of love that everyone needs!
