To Make a Contemporary Headboard Using Cookie Tins You Will Need:
Spray Paint
Fabric
Cotton Batting
Spray Adhesive
Power Drill
Nuts and Bolts
Scissors
To get started you will need to see how many cookie tins you need. It works best when making this modern headboard to use all cookie tins that are the same size and depth.
Tip: You can buy cookie tins for $1 at the $1 store! They work great for this.
Measure own wide your bed is. Measure how wide on of your cookie tins are. Divide the cookie tin number into the width of the bed and that is how many cookie tins you need for each row on the head board. I recommend at least making three rows, but you can go as height as you want.
Now, take your cookie tins apart. You want to lay out your rows of cookie tin bottoms, side by side. Drill a hole through each side where they touch. You want a complete hole that lines up from one cookie tin to the next. This is how you will assemble the headboard.
Now, go ahead ad spray paint the bottom halves of the tin. You want to do this in a color that coordinates with your fabric. You only need to pain that sides of the cookie tins, not the inside or back.
While those are drying you can work on the front of the headboard.
Take one lid of the cookie tins and lay it onto yoru cotton batting. Trace out one circle for each cookie tin that will be in the modern headboard. Cut these out.
Now, lay one cookie tin old on your fabric. Trace circles on to this as well. You need these to be three inches wider than the lid on all sides. Cut out one for each part of the contemporary headboard.
Now, spray each lid with a little spray adhesive. Press the cotton batting circles into place. Lay out each circle fo fabric face down on a work surface. Place the batting side face down on the circle of fabric.
Wrap the circle around the lid and tape or glue into place on the inside eth cookie tin lid.
Now, take bolts and slip them through the holes your drilled in each cookie tine side. Slip the bolt in one hole and out through the hole in the tin next to it. Use a nut to screw into place.
Drill a couple holes through the backs of the tin bases. Use these to bolt on picture hanging hooks onto the back.
Finally, go ahead and place the fabric covered circles back onto the bases.
Have a friend help you hang on a couple screws in the wall that coordinate with your picture hanging hooks.
