Jane Lynch earned an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress for her role as the quirky role as Sue Sylvester in "Glee." Though Lynch's role as the track suite-wearing cheerleading coach, she has been around for a long time, mainly in small roles in television and movies. She had roles in movies, such as "Best in Show," "The Fugitive" and "Julia & Julia." Lynch also played recurring roles as a therapist on hit shows "Two and a Half Men" and "Boston Legal."
"Temple Grandin" won seven Emmy Awards, including a win for Claire Danes for Outstanding Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actress for Julia Ormond. The movie chronicles the life and work of Temple Grandin, a high-functioning autistic woman who changed the way animals where handled on cattle ranches and in slaughterhouses. Claire Danes, who received an Emmy nomination in 1994 for her role in "My So-Called Life." The real Temple Grandin also attended the Emmy celebration.
The show had other first-time winners. Jim Parsons received an Emmy for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Sheldon Cooper in the CBS comedy "The Big Bang Theory." Aaron Paul won for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for "Breaking Bad," and Archie Panjabi earned the Emmy for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for "The Good Wife." "Top Chef" won for Reality - Competition Program, dethroning "The Amazing Race." Ann-Margaret, too, earned her first Emmy for a guest-starring role on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
This year's Emmy Awards proved to be more exciting than in past years. With all the first-time winners, viewers got to see genuine shock and hear heartfelt, sometimes incoherent, speeches from people who genuinely didn't expect to win.
