Modern Romance

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli
They talk on the phone for hours on end
Or sometimes on the internet instead
It's like they've been dating forever
Though they've never actually met face to face
But they talk and laugh and joke and fight
And learn everything they possibly can about one another

She likes him, but he's not the only one
There are others who fill her time
When he's not available
Some who live far away
But many who live close by

Sometimes he'll be the type to stand in front of his web cam
Partially naked and excited to have an audience
He asks her if she wants to watch...
Though not her style, she says she would,
as she wonders what he looks like

But afterwards, she wonders how often he does this
She is sure there are others
When she's not around.
And like with all other relationships
That go too fast
Even this one could end
Before it truly even begins

But this is the new dating
The new modern love

Sometimes she meets them in person
Sometimes more than one in a day
And she has some
She would consider spending the rest of her life with
And others meant only for cheap thrills

She is always out to meet some new friends
And the internet beats the bar scene any day
By the end of an evening
She'll have a few new numbers
And a few new friends to get to know
And there is always someone to keep her company
Even if she has to let one or two of them go.
