Modern Society

Dave Bryan
Eyes that see the world, curse the breath of life!
Transgressions of men, formally displayed,
Unwilling disgusted, vulgar strife,
Heroes unnoticed and with no hurray.
Art has no meaning, popular demand;
Products of destruction, modern delight,
Mindless unreal thoughts that I cannot stand,
Sounds and whispers translate to visual sight.
Work that has no reason that I forsake,
Frail and shallow, weakness greatly revered,
Looks that are empty and words they can make;
Noble actions discouraged, mostly feared!
The world is changing and not toward good,
Knowing not what you want or if you should!

    So what do you really think?--lol. But seriously, there is only one apt word for these words: poetry.

    Correction to my post--did not mean "On Walden Pond." Sorry, I was sampling some vino.

    Kind of a sad commentary, but I agree, at least in part.

    A couple of things come to mind. I want to read Thoreau's "On Walden Pond" again. Second, if mankind had a collective neck, I'd slash its throat. Going to get my copy of Thoreau....
