How to Improve Your Modern Warfare 2 Game

First of all, take a moment to look at how you play. How is it that you normally end up getting killed? What could you have done differently? What do you see others doing in a similar situation? Observe your own play style, and then take a look at the play styles of the better people on your team. What weapons do they use the most? How do they spend their time alive?

Most people fall into one of three different play styles. The first (and most common among newer players) is the berserker. They run around haphazardly shooting at anything that moves, hoping for a lucky kill. Generally, they use an assault rifle, or a machine gun, since that will allow them to throw a lot of rounds down-range in a short amount of time. While this may work, it has a tendency to rack up a lot more deaths than kills, and as a result, these players tend to have a pretty low place on the scoreboard at the end of the game. If you find that this is more or less your style, try to adapt to a more covert style of play. You'll probably get a lot more kills, and you may even find that you enjoy it.

The second of the common play styles is what I like to call "the soldier". These players favor fast-firing, yet accurate weapons. When they move, they try & stay near some sort of cover, and they only fire when they are reasonably sure that they'll hit an opponent. They generally try to gain some sort of tactical advantage on their opponent before going in for a kill, including using flash-bangs, stun grenades, or simply waiting for their opponent to reload. These players make up the basic "infantry" of the Modern Warfare 2 army.

The third play style, and my personal favorite, as it is how I play most of the time is "the phantom". We like to get our kills without the enemy even realizing we were there till it's too late. We prefer silenced pistols, silenced sub-machine guns, and sniper rifles to the standard assault rifle. Some of us prefer to snipe from a distance, and some of us prefer to sneak in, kill our opponents, and sneak back out.

The Phantom play style is probably the safest, since it requires very little actual confrontation, but I find that most of the time, in Modern Warfare 2 anyway, the Soldier type players tend to be closer to the top of the scoreboard, since a lot of the Modern Warfare 2 maps aren't exactly sniper-friendly. Which one you choose, however, is entirely up to you.

Other than changing your overall play style, there are a few things you can do to improve your Modern Warfare 2 Multi-player experience. Firstly, try to aim for the upper part of your opponent's chest as much as you can. Not only will this allow your weapon's recoil to lead you up into a clean head-shot, but if you happen to have a few stray bullets, they have a much better chance of still damaging your opponent. Secondly, try to use solid cover as much as possible. Not just cover that will block a few bullets for you, but cover that you'll also be able to blend into reasonably well. If the opponent doesn't see you, he won't shoot you.

I hope after reading this article you see an improvement in your Modern Warfare 2 Game!

You Phantom players really get mu goat, but kudos to ya brother. I am the cover and concealment type who plays a more tactical game. In MW2 my kdr is about 1.3 to 1. My kdr in COD4 MW is much better. I have 2 COD4 profiles that I really work hard on - one has a kdr of well over 5 to 1 and the other has a kdr of well over 6 to 1. I play mainly as a sniper in COD4. Man does that piss off those ya kill from 200 yards, esp. in hardcore where I play exclusively because there is no killcam. My victims usually spend entire map periods trying to find me to exact retribution. hehe! Good tips Brother.
