Modernizing a Home

Upgrading Exisiting Appliances

Whenever you are updating a house and trying to make it look nicer for a potential future buyer or just trying to modernize it, there are many things to keep in mind. It can be hard to make the transition from an old appliance to a new one to be smooth. This has to do with the fact that many new appliances are not built the same as there old counterparts.

Recently, a new screen door was installed on the front door of my home. It replaced an older screen door that was over a decade old. The screen had broken in some places and had to be taped over to prevent bugs and insects from getting inside. The new door I had installed was much heavier than the old door. The glass seemed heavy and so did the door frame. However, the main problem was the structure of the closing and opening of the door. The new screen door was designed to slowly close; however, it was not possible to have it work properly. The door ended up closing very quickly and sometimes even hit me when I walked through the door if I was not quick enough. This was unlike the previous door which was much lighter but did not have a closing mechanism.

I also have had other doors installed in the wood doors in the home. These are the doors that open and close to let you in the closet, bathroom, and bedrooms. The new doors that were purchased were slightly narrower than the old doors. When the new doors were installed, they fit in the frame, but left a bit of a gap. This allowed light to more easily get through the door which was a problem. In order to fix this problem an entire new door would be needed. It would need to be cut to fit the correct dimensions and inside the existing frame.

My home has also recently had a new dishwasher installed. The new dishwasher does not fit properly in the frame of the old dishwasher. The new dishwasher is slightly smaller. This causes there to be a gap in the dishwasher and the side of the frame. This causes the door to not properly close and fit snugly. Again, an entirely new dishwasher is needed to replace the brand new dishwasher just installed.

When it comes time to upgrading an outdated home, it may be difficult. Perhaps it is necessary because you are trying to sell the home and get more value out of it. As long as the products are functioning it may be in your best interest to keep them.
