Center for Housing Resources (chrdallas.org) CHR provides an opportunity for partnership between elderly and disabled low-income homeowners and volunteer groups from non-profit organizations, financial institutions, churches, and other volunteer groups. The Volunteer Home Repair and Weatherization Program provides materials and tools to volunteer groups assisting homeowners by painting and repairing the exterior of the home and improving energy efficiency. Together with these groups the program provides basic exterior repairs to homes in the Dallas area. The repairs focus on health and sanitation, safety, and energy efficiency.
Christian Community Action of North Texas (ccahelps.org) Christian Community Action Family Assistance Coordinators provide financial, emotional, and spiritual assistance to families. Family Eldercare's Summer Fan Drive (familyeldercare.org/fandrive.asp) Since 1990 Family Eldercare has distributed over 25,000 fans to low-income elderly, people with disabilities and families with young children to prevent heat-related illnesses and death due to the heat. This year over 30 nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies are assisting with distribution in a five-county area. Dallas offers free pet services to low-income residents. The town has become the first city in Texas to offer free spay and neuter services for pets owned by qualified, low-income Dallas residents.
