Hispanic Radio Asks People to Stand Together Despite Differences

Today Nevada State Assembly Member Moises 'Mo' Denis delivered the Democratic Hispanic Radio Address.

Denis represents the strong Hispanic community in Nevada, and in his speech he focuses on immigration and cooperation, and explains how both the first immigrants who arrived at Plymouth Rock, and the wetbacks who swim across the Rio Grande today are looking for the same thing, leaving everything they own behind and searching for a better life for themselves and for their children.

Denis is the son of Cuban immigrants, and has excelled in Nevada at both the local and state levels for his service in education. He works hard to knit immigrants closer into the American society and states in his speech that although he is very grateful for the endless opportunities that were given to him when his parents fled the dictatorship in Cuba, he still holds his cultural heritage close to his heart.

Thanksgiving, he states, is a celebration of diversity. He then goes on to explain how easy it is to forget to help each other out, but that Thanksgiving comes as a good reminder to gather families and neighbors and standing together despite diversity and differences.

He also brings up political cases, bashing the Republican Party for using immigration as a tool to separate voters, and the Bush Administration for their veto of a bill that would provide health care for 10 million children. In addition to this, he states the fact that the Republican presidential candidates' refusal to consider a new direction in Iraq shows just how easy it is to forget the number one priority; to work together for common concerns. Politics can very often take over and make us forget what's most important.

To finish off his speech, he makes a point to remind everyone that we must stand up against division, hate, and partisanship, because if one person loses, everyone loses. By working together, America will continue to be the great country it's always been.

Moises 'MO' Denis was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1061. He attended Rancho High School, Las Vegas, and the Brigham young University where he has finished a Bachelor of Arts degree. He has been married to Susan Cook for almost twenty years, and together they have five children, who all attend public schools. He enjoys music, theater, camping, reading, basketball, volunteering at his local church, and since he is fluent in Spanish, he helps the community by serving as a translator.

He sat in the Nevada Assembly in 2004-2005, for one special and one regular session.
