Mom, Dad: We're Pregnant!

M
Finding out I was pregnant with my first child was both exciting and scary at the same time. I had miscarried six months before and I was terrified that the same thing was going to happen again. My husband and I decided to wait until I was into my third month before telling anyone as we knew at that point the risk of miscarriage was much lower. In that time, the pregnancy was our special secret and we almost were sad when it was time to share the secret with those we loved.

The first people we called were our parents. We were nervous about doing this because we were not sure how their reactions would be. When we called my mom, his mom and step-dad, and his dad and step-mom all were overjoyed. This would be the first grandchild for both his and my parents and that made the pregnancy that much more exciting. My husband promised his dad if the baby was a boy we would name him William as every first born boy in his family for six generations was named William.

When our son was ten months old I started feeling unwell. I was not yet late with my period but I had a suspician I might be pregnant again. I took a pregnancy test and my feeling was confirmed. I came out of the bathroom and went to the bedroom where my husband was feeding our son a bottle. I remember saying "You love me right?". Of course he said yes and I replied, "You better because we are having another baby!" The smile on his face told me that though the pregnancy was a surprise it was one that was welcome and joyous.

We did not wait to tell our family about the pregnancy this time. The day I tested positive at home we called our parents. I was pretty secure in the fact that I was expecting because three positive pregnancy tests are hard to deny. My mom and his mom were surprised, but happy. His dad was happy though he told my husband in a joking way that we were making an old man out of him. Everyone told us they just knew I was having a girl this time. Nine months later our beautiful daughter entered the world.
