Mom & Dementia

Diana
I watched her sitting silently,
with only a blank stare.
the thought came suddenly,
'is she even still there'?

Dr's said dementia,that awful day,
I stood in horror, what could I say?
It attacks the mind, confuses it all,
I turned from Mom , faced the wall.

My heart was breaking, what could I do?
this disease struck millions , no cure too.
the memories were racing, round in my mind,
remembering sadly, what this lady left behind

Years she had sacrificed to all others,
my Dad ,I, and eight sisters and brothers.
Working so unselfishly to give us a home,
the thought came abruptly,' Moms not gone'.

Most days she calls us different names
but this our mother, just the same.
Just cherish the days, she remembers all,
take satisfaction knowing, this was God's call.

So brothers and sister, this I relay,
thank our Dear Lord, each and every day,
for this beautiful mother and her love,
only existing here, till her call above.

Beautiful poem that shows how much you truly love your mother. Dementia is such a sad, robbing disease. My grandpa has it, too. Thankfully he still remembers who we are.....for now.....

I lost my mother to bone-marrow-cancer at the tender age of 54-cherish the days we have our Mother's and Father's, they are a most precious gift.

Wonderful and very sincere in self restraint knowing of a disease that is not easy to deal with-welcome to the community.

Lovely poem. No matter what happens to her, she is still your mother and you demonstrated your love for her very well in this poem. Thanks for sharing this with us.
