Mom Marketing: Utilizing Mommy Blogs to Promote Your Product

Robin Neorr
If you have determined that you are going to market your product to mothers, who by they way make on average 80% of the purchasing decisions, you are faced with the age old question of how exactly do you get your marketing message out there without breaking the bank? The answer has actually never been easier. You simply research the ever emerging world of "The Mommy Blogs."

Women are out there writing, blogging, and posting on topics from what diapers are best to lactivism. The best part of all of this is that other mothers are reading. Moms are hungry for knowledge and love learning from the Mommy Blogs. The Mommy Blogs offer first hand experiences from the field of motherhood as well as opinions, entertainment, and knowledge. They are a wonderful way for women to stay connected. They tap into a world that women need.

Mommy Blogs are popular with both stay at home moms and with working moms. Not every mommy has a vast world of other mommy friends. Say a mommy is the first of her friends with a child. She works full time and isn't able to hang out at playgroups as much as she would like, but wants to know what other moms are going through. She is intelligent and has money to spend. She doesn't like to waste what precious little down time she has surfing the internet for opinions and advice to what brand of diaper is best or should she do clothe or disposable. She is reading Mommy Blogs and you need to advertise to her.

Your first step in utilizing the mommy blogs is to decide what audience your product will appeal to. Do you sell cutesy t-shirts, well then the vast majority of mommy blogs will suit you. Do you sell Hotslings and Mei Tais then a baby wearing blog would be for you. It's really quite simple.

There are amazing mommy blogger communities to help you research and read various different mommy bloggers blogs. Great places to check out to find your perfect blog is the List Your Mom Blog or The Mom Bloggers Club. Once you find at least three blog you like read them, and I don't just mean read one page of it you need to put in some time effort into this. It you need to read the blog, and the comments. What type of person is commenting on the blog? Are the comments positive? Are there no comments at all? You need to know who is reading the blog to determine if they are the right audience for your message. Look at how often the blog is updated. You want to be on a blog that the writer updates on a regular basis, such as three to four times per week. A blog that lays dormant with the same content is not going to generate business for you.

Next step once you have done your research is to see if the blog has done product testing in the past. If the blog has tested a Mai Tei and then written about it, well that is the best darn advertising there is. Bloggers might not always be hop to jump on the testing a sample and writing about it band wagon. If that is the case, which it may be, check to see what they charge for advertising. You will be surprised to find that you might be able to get a month long advertisement on a blog that gets 20,000 hits per month for as little as $50 a month. This is an option to take advantage of.

Regardless of whether or not you decide to advertise on a mommy blog if you are marketing to moms I highly recommend that you read these blogs and comment on a regular basis, if nothing else then to just get your name out there and to keep up with the mommy industry, believe me it will pay off.
