Here I stand your grown up girl
Ready to enter this big wide world
You helped create what you now see
You've brought out the best in me
Mom, you never left my side
You have always been my guide
A better mom could never be
Mom, you mean the world to me
When I was a child of three
Fell to the ground and scraped my knee
You were there to pick me up
You were there to comfort me
Between a mother and her child
A greater love can never be
When I hurt you feel my pain
You dry my tears, but, then again
You are the best there is to be
That's why you mean the world to me
Stand back; just take a look at me
This fine young lady that you see
Call this your great work of art
You shaped me; you molded me
You sacrificed, you stood by me
From my doubts, you set me free
When I gave up, you believed in me
You helped create what you now see
You are my mother, my rock, my joy
I wish there was a mom like you
for every little girl and boy
When I was weak you did stand strong
I wanted to quit, you said hold on
When I fell down, you lifted me up
So high, so high, felt I could fly
There's nothing out there I can't do
This is what I learned from you
You shared my sorrow, my laughter, my pain
Your love sheltered me from the rain
Here I stand your grown up girl
Feel I'm ready for this big world
Mom, I owe a lot to you
You sacrificed to pull me through
A beautiful mom, a single mom, I'm a lucky girl
To have a special mom like you, the best mom in the world
Graduated, Honor Role; barely turned eighteen years old
The goals we set, we did achieve, all because we both believe
Now, I'm off three thousand miles
We must part through tears and smiles
Four long years, yes, we must part
For this very moment we both worked hard
Even though I love you so; off to college I must go
Full scholarship opened the door to a different world
For your grown up baby girl
Tears we shed are bittersweet
Holidays and vacations again we'll meet
Class of 2008

How sweet!
This is both a beautiful poem and tribute to a mother's sacrifice. Best of luck to Jiya...may her accomplishments take her far.

What a wonderful tribute!
Nice work!!
Congrats on your grandaughter success and her great relationship with her mother. It is obvious that her mother, your daughter, had a great teacher herself!
I just loved it!
Very nice and wonderful. A perfect read.
This is a very sweet poem, Mary! I've said it before, but I will say it again - she's lucky to have such a wonderful grandmother!
